Well poop. Not what I wanted. We could trade prob a 6th rounder for swift and do just as good. We had a legit te to take

Lots of 3rd round left to move back up for the Saints.

Reading up on him seems strange considering theyve just brought a bigger back in. Little impact as a third down back, can't run away from linebacker.

We may already have all the legit TE's we need.

I was thinking to myself that Miller has some redundant traits that we already have on the roster. He’s been injured so it’s hard to gauge how explosive of an athlete he is. One thing we know for sure, the Saints don’t shy away from players who’ve been injured and let that affect their decision on who to draft.

I know I may not have a popular opinion but I would trade a certain rob and wr. Hope we get good and use those picks to replace them. We pay too much for both. I really wanted a sweet og.

Trautman? With Carr under center all of our TE's can take a huge step forward. Juwan Johnson, Trautman, Taysom, and let's not forget Lucas Krull.

Not a fan of this one but I'm hearing and reading good things about this kid. "Angry" and "determined" have been mentioned a few times when pundits describe his running style.

I found it interesting that several RB are rated AHEAD of him.

He had 4th round grades

Only 20 years old so he has time to develop. We’ll see.

Without the injury Miller would probably be the 3rd back off the board.

Yeah,it's not a complaint just found it a strange pick considering the Williams pick up. I do like how Allen/Ireland/Loomis seem to be looking to add a physical nasty streak through both sides of the ball though. I've always felt just following the crowd into the fast playing, passing format for offense is a mistake. Teams are playing with smaller and faster players so go big and run them over

Oh that news on Spears explains why he wasn't taken. No ACL, and other issues in the knee

Yup. May only have a couple of years in him. If that.

I wouldn't hold my breath regardless of who the QB is under center.

Adam has an average NFL skillset. Does not move the needle.

Well, this is the most I’ve doubted Allen since he’s been head coach. Prove me wrong DA!

Another year and I'm going to say it again. Comp picks shouldn't exist. Getting picks cause your cheap and wouldn't pay a player,or you've screwed up your cap and have to let them go. Neither should be compensated.

Super draft so far by Loomis and Ireland. Can't wait to see what they bring home with the next five picks.

I have to agree. All picks have been at positions of need.

So come clean, who tied Loomis up in the back room. No way he's gone through 3 rounds and not traded up

It takes two to tango. Probably couldn't find a dance partner that was willing to move down.

But, I think they got exactly who they had targeted right where they sat so far.

The Saints need to bring in some vets (cap casualties) later this summer at the skill positions. You can't expect to "hit" on another Shaheed.

If you want to play with the big boys (playoffs) in late January, you need more ammo at WR & TE.

Boston Saint 04-28-2023 11:41 PM

Re: Official 2023 Saints Draft Thread

I guess this sort of sums up my feeling about our first two pics. And again I stress that I know I could be easily wrong and I hope that I am. But I look at the guys that have been the biggest contributors to the Saints defensive line over the last few years (Cam Jordan excluded), and it seems mostly they were not drafted high. T-rex, Tuttle, Onyemata, Roach and players signed from other teams have outshown the Turners and Davenport that have been first or second round picks.

That’s my drunk rant. I am not against the players themselves. I hope and believe they will succeed. I’m good with the Breese pick. Maybe the Davenport/Turner experience is making me doubt our 2nd pick. Either way I’m hoping that these guys excel, Washington sucks as a TE, and I will be eating Crow gumbo come playoff time this winter.

Agree and some OL backup couldn't hurt

Re: Official 2023 Saints Draft Thread

I don't understand all the love that was shared the last few days over this Darnell Washington guy at TE. I suppose since he was on the championship team he got some exposure. As I said before, I don't follow college ball much at all so I'd never seen anything about him. From all the stuff I've seen after the draft he's basically an inline TE that describes himself as "a sixth offense lineman". Talk around here included taking him at #40, meanwhile the rest of the NFL let seven other TE's go before him while he wasn't taken until #93 by the Steelers. The guy scored THREE TD's in his entire career at Georgia while averaging only 1.67 catches per game.

I want weapons, not an oversized Tre'Quan Smith that only plays sparingly in 12 personnel.

I’m really curious to know who they wanted to trade up for. Wonder if it was for the player that ended up falling to them anyways or someone else

Day 3

Hopefully it’s a guard or WR.

I'm guessing someone else. Or more precisely, someone in addition to who they got. I'll bet they were hoping to move back into the second after having got their target, Foskey. Maybe Cody Mauch or that Charbonnet kid.

What the Saints Could Do on Day 3

Assuming nothing changes, the Saints will have five picks to make on the final day, which includes an early Day 3 selection at No. 115. New Orleans tried to do some trading yesterday, but it didn't work out. This could be the day to see them move up, as there's plenty of good talent to grab in the 4th and 5th Rounds today.

Quote:

POTENTIAL SAINTS TARGETS FOR DAY 3

A.T. Perry, WR, Wake Forest
Dawand Jones, OL, Ohio State
Jaelyn Duncan, OL, Maryland
Blake Freeland, OL, BYU
Jammie Robinson, DB, Florida State
Trey Palmer, WR, Nebraska
JL Skinner, S, Boise State
Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
Andrei Iosivas, WR, Princeton
Ivan Pace, LB, Cincinnati
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA
Zack Kuntz, TE, Old Dominion
Isaiah Land, LB, Florida A&M
Ronnie Hickman, S, Ohio State
Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon State
Aubrey Miller, LB, Jackson State
Bryce Ford-Wheaton, WR, West Virginia
Jake Haener, QB, Fresno State
McClendon Curtis, OL, Chattanooga
Andre Carter, OLB, Army
Kaevon Merriweather, DB, Iowa

Blackandgold nation, I think we somehow got through to Mickey. We need to have these "need-based" drafts more often, and then like one out of every 3 years I'll allow the "fall in love and move up and be risky" draft!
