That is the conundrum, isn't it? Sign someone now whom may never be used save during practice and preseason and late in games, or have him at the ready WHEN injuries flood the backfield.

Not sure why, but methinks Fournette does not want to play for the Saints, having spurned us once already when he bolted to the Yucs.

Surely there has to be a younger cheap back out there, maybe fixing to be soon cut. Merrick has been practicing there. Maybe it shows he isn't going to make it.

I almost remember the four RB set in the Bum offense.

Maybe the Saints didn’t need 2 RBs that were good at kicking.

Taysom, Miller and Williams can more than handle the load for the first 3 weeks.
What happens if Miller is slow to learn pass blocking and blitz assignments? DA won't be able to use him on pass plays and it could telegraph that it's a run play. Kind of like having 3Q out there does.

If one player goes down for any substantial amount of time then we are left with a bell cow running back. Like it or not. It feels like this whole season is about insurance and making sure that we have quality backups when starters inevitably go down. Unfortunately, AK misses some games each year as it is.

Yes, we have Taysom, but he doesn't spend anytime in the running back room now. I think it's a smart move to bring in a vet who is waiting for a chance to shine gain and get another contract. Hunt wanted too much money and he wants to start. It ain't happening here. I do want us to invest in additional insurance players though.

Wonder why they haven't brought in David Johnson again?

Might have something to do with his 12 carries for 24 yards and a fumble his last hitch. They probably deleted him from the speed dial.

Merrick is a camp beast/practice squad player at best.

Last I read, he has a hamstring issue so there's that. Probably won't get to showcase his talents vs the Chiefs this weekend.

Ice up.

Kirk Merritt was back at practice today in what appeared to be full go.
