Re: Observations from Saints' victory vs Chargers

Jake Haener seems to be quickly closing the gap on Winston, I don't think he has passed him yet, but I believe he may by mid-season or sooner.

O-line, just a big ole mess, hopefully the starters perform and don't have injury issues this year.

I would say at this point the Saints RB situation is good, unless injuries occur, I think they are set and likely out of the market for additional help at this point.

Nothing more I can add about the penalties, we all know that needs to be quickly fixed or the Saints will start the season 0-3.

All valid points with the penalties. Hopefully it's merely a result of playing bodies to see if they will be worthy of making the team.

The rookie WRs all made 3Qs expendable. Shaq Davis looks huge out there. AT Perry is the same.
WR1 Olave
WR2 MT
WR3/4 Shaheed
WR4/3 AT Perry
WR5 Shaq Davis
WR6 Maybe Trequan ?

Lonnie Johnson may have beat out Roby at CB. Yiadom too.
Howden makes the team.
Pride is a special teamer for now.
Foskey needs a lot of work. Missing all that time hurt him so far.
How can you cut Lalos? Is he the next Rob Ninkovich?
Cage is a PS guy. Same for Emili and Heflin. And Filiaga at G.
No need to bring more help at LB. Something will shake out from our bunch.
We're not done figuring out our OL depth.
We're good at RB too. Not sold on Williams yet.
Krull is getting his chances but not coming through. We didn't see much of the other TEs for some reason.
QBs are set... and this is indeed Jameis' last year here. Unless we find a trade partner that's willing to take on the cap hit sometime this year.
Lots of fringe players that will be special teamers, like Kirklin out of LSU.

One more week of evals.

Unfortunately to some, I think Edwards' performance may have locked Tre'Quan onto the roster. He was asked to do the same things as Tre'Quan but failed miserably. He was flagged multiple times on those rubs that Tre'Quan gets away with unnoticed. He also dropped more than one easy one that Tre'Quan usually hauls in. Perry is a lock. If we keep six then Davis may round it out.

The fact NY can call a player off the field at their descression is absolute B.S. Haener looked fine after that hit.

I was actually surprised they waited as long as they did to evaluate Haener. They showed him walking back to the huddle after what I believe may have been the next play and he was closing his eyes and shaking his head. That surely didn't go unnoticed both upstairs and in New York given it was the only game in play.

The targeting should have been an ejection, FWIW.

I've only watched the first half so far, will watch the second half today.

So far...
  • Penning and Adebo both got worked by rookies.
  • Other than a few plays, run blocking needs work.
  • Did see some potential at LB. That was encouraging!
  • Malcolm Roach is underrated every year.
  • Those penalties will kill us.
  • Krull is a 50/50.
  • Where did Bowden JR. come from?

Agreed. I was kind of confused as to why it wasn't called. I thought I saw him put the crown of his helmet into the helmet of the QB. Am I misunderstanding what constitutes targeting?

Perry, might be a practice squad player or a go to the XFL/USFL for a season and work those issues out player. Can't have those penalties.
