Have you seen what Eric has already done with Sam Howell so far? Saints coaching stinks in all phases on Metairie Dr. I see low energy from players, bad body language, and getting embarrassed by a divisional foe in our own house. Pete Carmichael is a terrible play-caller. Very little play-action & predictable on 3rd downs. Getting torched by Baker Mayfield ? Good lord. IMO we are in trouble. |

Re: Time to Hire Gruden
Somehow my mind just went to the draft when we got leapfrogged by KC to draft Mahomes. And I'm sad all over again.

Re: Time to Hire Gruden
I think Dennis Allen's defense is fine. I think what happens is they stay on the field too long and they get worn out and then start to give up chunk plays. I don't think he is a good head coach though. Carmichael has to go though. He's making everyone here think Carr is bad when he isn't the problem. Carr actually has a pretty good completion percentage. We just don't move the chains, mainly because of the playcalling. You don't send everyone to the endzone when you only need 4 yards. You keep picking up first downs and reset your chances; this establishes a rhythm. Carmichael is either overthinking or underthinking. They gave us the underneath routes for the majority of the game. We never went there though and didn't have routes there. We just had drop-off routes and deep patterns. You attack what the defense gives you and get first downs along the way. Carmichael is also the worst red-zone play-caller I've ever seen.

Re: Time to Hire Gruden
I don’t think this team needs to be blown up, but it’s time for some coaching changes beginning with Carmichael. I think this team has plenty of youth and talent and I’m pretty happy with the moves they’ve made to get us to this point as far as the team as a whole is concerned.
I made the comment in the offseason that we should give Pete another chance with a better quarterback and so far we’ve seen nothing. Actually could argue that we’ve regressed. At this point I feel like you’re gonna get the same results with Carr or Winston. If Allen is gonna be stubborn and not make changes on the coaching, then at least shake things up on the field. At this point I’d try running a split back formation with Kamara and Miller as the backs with Taysom under center with a nice blend of pass and rush. That would make things pretty unpredictable and give us a lot of options imo. |

Re: Time to Hire Gruden
The coaching staff needs to be blown up, not the team. We chose the direction we were going in once we signed Carr and re-signed all the guys that we did. For the most part, the talent is there. We just need to find the right guys to get the most out of them. Blowing up the team is not feasible.

I predict that when Carr gets a good play-caller he's going to prove everyone here doubting him wrong.
