I’m not knocking the guy, but it must’ve been a pretty weak week for special teams across the league if Grupe won the honor. I’m glad he made his kicks but going 2-2 on FGs is nothing to write home about. Just my take.

Pretty decent numbers there across the board, but not the best in the league. Greg Zuerlein won the AFC award going 5-5 on FG's, 2-2 on XP's, and had touchbacks on all eight of his kickoffs. |

Chicagos kicker Cairo Santos (great name) was 8 for 8 with 4 FGs. His longest was only 43 though. |

Yeah. They seem give more weight to those long ones. PK's seem to get it more than other positions, but I've seen returners and punters quite a bit, too. Pretty sure coverage players have won it a few time, as well.
Here's a listing on Pro-football reference of every player of the week back into the late '70's! Morstead was listed several times. |
