Honestly, he could not have done much worse with this stacked roster that Loomis set up for a deep run. Why give him another chance to screw this up when history shows that this is the best it gets?
I don't fault your undying optimism but......I've thought long and hard about this. I've drawn a line in the sand. My mind is made up and there will be no second guessing my decision now. Sinner says it best " We need a new coach". |

We need a new coach? The only way any of us can truthfully choose a another coach is to choose another team with a coach we like. |

Of course these discussions have zero effect on how the Saints perform on Sundays. Were just fans interacting with other fans from all over the planet in one happy, dysfunctional place. |

Got it? It doesn't change the fact that it matters not what any of us think. I never said that y'all can't think what you want to think, fruitless though it may be. Think away and enjoy! |

I disagree that Loomis gave us a stacked roster set up for a deep run. Bill Belichick never won a title without Tom Brady. Andy Reid never won a title without Patrick Maholmes. Bill Walsh had Joe Montana and Steve Young. Derek Carr is not any of those players and I dont think any of those coaches would have won anything with Carr. Its possible to win a Super Bowl with a player like Carr but you either need a stacked oline and dline that wins every battle at the line of scrimmage and makes it easy for Carr with running and keeping opponents to very low scores or you need a ridiculously good defense like the Warren Sapp Bucs or Ray Lewis Ravens. We have a good defense but nothing along those lines and we don't have the oline. Gruden was a former Super Bowl champ coach and he didn't win one with Carr, the best he did was one decent playoff season where if Carr had not got hurt, they are a second tier contender, but not really what I see as a team making a deep run, perhaps a medium run. Regardless of the coach this roster has flaws that I believe prevent a deep playoff run. The oline is makeshift. The QB is league average. The defense is 'solid' but lacks an elite pass rush. Cam Jordan is old and covers his responsibilities and eventually gets to the QB but does not have the burst to be a menace to defenses anymore, and he was never that absolute take over the game pass rusher. Granderson is another player along those lines who is solid but is not going to look spectacular against good teams with solid oline and skilled mobile QBs. Davis is solid but getting up there. Lattimore sometimes plays down to his competition, while focusing on prime matchups, and just isn't this shut down corner like Sauce Gardner, or isn't paired with the type of pass rushers to feed off each other. And we have 3 good receivers and a good RB but none of them have been able to bust out as elite and take over games, probably a lot due to the makeshift oline. We are financially absolutely maxxed out. There are no more contracts that can be restructured. Loomis maxxed out our cap and maxxed out our 2025 commitments to be 'pretty good' now. We could be better with another coach but I think the roster still limits us. I don't think there is any scenario of a league leading offense with an aging Derek Carr and a makeshift oline unless you are racking stats in garbage time with a lousy defense. DA is a good DC and I am not sure who is going to get much more out of our defense, which is solid all around but does not have a player like Bosa or Gardner or Parsons who can take over games. My general feeling is that with a better coach and a neutral schedule this is perhaps a 10-11 win roster. With a great coach and a neutral schedule, perhaps 12 wins. The thing is we have a bad coach but an anything but neutral schedule, a historically easy schedule with historic luck on opponents being even worse and more injured than how already bad they were expected to be. So I feel like the bad coaching and the super easy schedule luck are offsetting. If we had a great coach with this schedule could we win 14 or 15 games? Sure I guess. But a 14-15 win team with this schedule is not the same as a normal 14-15 win team. I think we still need a better roster. No matter the coach or regular season record, I don't think we are positioned to make a deep playoff run because we are not elite at QB, oline, dline, or pass rush, and factoring all those areas together we are average. The things that could make us above average like secondary, overall defense, and a lot of potential at WR and RB are not what wins championships when you are not elite at QB or on the line of scrimmage. I would say we are average at QB, below average at oline, a little above average but not elite at overall dline, and average at pass rush. That is just not a team that makes a deep playoff run even with a hall of fame head coach. |
