Re: Question for the Forum: Who was the worst Saints player during your lifetime?
I think the players who did the most harm were Nick Fairley and Alex Analzone because they were on the cap/roster during the key window years for winning a title when we just needed a little more defense and caused major holes. Fairley had a known heart condition, committed elder abuse against the GM and owner to get a bug contract, then before the ink was dry on the contract saw their own specialist and was put on bedrest for the length of the deal while we missed Superbowls and Conference Championships by one score in OT. Analzone held down a starting job for all those championship window years with mediocre play and flashes while the musical chairs his constant injuries causes prevented the defense from ever getting in a rhythm until he left the team. They say the greatest ability is availability so I think those two were the worst. If we passes on Fairley and got Suh we might have had a ring or two.
On the current team I would say Trevor Penning. We nuked the entire offense and have every target focus on blocking not getting open to cover for starting Nancy Kerrigan at Left Tackle early this year. Meanwhile the 2023 1st we traded to Philly as only part of the package to get a second 1st to take Penning was used to trade up one spot for Jalen Carter the probably DROY at DT. The Bears took the original pick and selected Darnell Wright who was a 17 game quality starter. Penning is likely to cause chaos on the roster for years to come as we waste time trying Nancy Kerrigan at RT or OG. |

Johnathan Sullivan. Talk about a wasted draft pick.

I'm 57 so that is a lot of bad players. But Johnathan Sullivan has got to be it. I remember how excited my friends and I were when the Saints traded up in that draft. We thought we were finally getting a CB, and then...
Isn't he also the one who was spotted at the media buffet at an away game. |

Trevor Siemian - recently
Jason David - in the past - to be fair, though, he was that square peg being forced into the round hole Honestly, there are no doubt dozens more over the years that have been far and away worse than anybody mentioned and it's impossible to judge any player whose Saints career has yet to be completed. |
