Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

Per Adam Schefter, Saints are working to hire the 49ers passing game specialist after the Super Bowl.

Good move

I can't say if it's a good move or bad move... I just hope it works out.

We can spin his track record to fit either narrative.

Expect to see waaaay more motion from Chris Olave & Shaheed.

This should also help our TEs.

Really glad the Saints targeted a young innovative coach who is a offensive “junkie” that will play to player’s strengths.

See Kamara, Taysom.

Looks like a good move
Small steps, hopefully the first of many.

Kubiak seems solid. Probably can't hold the Minnesota stint against him because Zimmer wanted it conservative. At least that was what was said up here a lot in Vikings country.

Can we play the Super Bowl this weekend so we can get the hire done? I don't give two poops about the Pro Bowl!!!

DA is going to want conservatism too. I’m happy with the hire though. It’s behind us. Let’s go.

I seriously think that most all of the conservative play we saw on offense was driven by Carmichael's insecurities, not by any Allen mandate. Pete cranked it up some 2/3rd's of the way through the season and I'd lay money Allen was the one turning that crank.

As long as Carr is there it doesn't matter. He won't be taking the saints to the super bowl.

I see no reason why he can't. He's every bit as good as a dozen other QB that have taken teams to the Super Bowl.

Since Jamaal Williams can't run for crap I'd love to see Taysom moved to a HB/FB role and maybe the very occasional QB power. If he's still here, the old ways of using Taysom won't cut it.

Whaaaaaat??

Jamaal had 306 yards on 106 attempts. That’s a 2.9 yard avg sir! And a TD! He was kicking ass!!!

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

Motion gives the tell on the defenses plan. A good QB can use that information to proceed or kill the called play. Believe it or not, Carr IS a good QB And an OC like Kubiak could make those variable calls more deadly. With Carmichael's design and calls Carr was more like a kid's Big Wheel trying to motor on a beach.

Alvin was 3.9 which isn’t good either. Hopefully with new scheming, we’ll see better production from our running backs.

Lol :p

JWilliams seems like a great team mate (hence that 1 td vs Falcons) but he's not the answer.

In short yardage he was decent, but his pass protection was below avg.

Even with all of those tds he had with the Lions, Detroit knew he was limited as a RB.

Guaranteed Actual Fact right there. Guaranteed. He WON’T.

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

Was he really that bad in Minnesota
Cook,Jefferson and Cousins all made the pro bowl for whatever that means.

Cousins 4200 yards/33 TDs
Cook 1159 yards rushing/6 TDs and
Jefferson 1600 yards receiving and 10 TDs
Thielen 700+ Yards 10 TDs
12 total offense

The defense was ranked 30th

Look at some of the loses
27-24 OT Bengals
33-34 Cardinals
31-34 OT Ravens
26-34 49ers
27-29 Lions

The loses look on the defense more than the offense most weeks

DA can call the plays he wants but that doesnt mean the players will run the plays he calls.

How much is him and how much the Offensive line seeing as Kamara didn't look good either. I wonder if Kubiaj tries to bring the 49ers assistant Joe Graves with him as new online coach

Bring Chris Conley in to be our blocking WR.

Maybe we can bring back TreQuan. The guy was one of the best blockers on team for years and could catch a pass when called upon. He was simply a role player. His role was never meant to be a front line receiver. I never could understand the hatred by some.

We don't need a blocking WR, we need a team of players that are willing to block for each other adequately and do the little things to win. You see that trait when teams like the Ravens and 49ers play.

Every player except the QB should be prepared and willing to block, just like every basketball player should be expected to set good screens.

This hire definitely changes the thought process @ pick #14.

Klint seems like a “fit” (scheme wise) with AK, Shaheed & Olave.

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

Part of me hopes Doug Marrone is still shown the door.

Let Kubiak bring in someone he trusts, because surely a bunch of first rounders we've got on the O line can't be as bad as they have played.

If better coaching improves them, then we can spend the picks we have on getting younger and faster on defense.

I don't think Alontae is the answer at slot corner.

We need better pass rush. I love Cam Jordan, but he was pretty useless last season. Shift him inside, draft a DE and get a younger / better safety.

Mathieu was okay, Maye is a horrible tackler and just not great overall.

Dougie M should have been gone before Pete C .

And I never understood putting Taylor in the slot.

He’s a boundary guy & they wonder why he struggled all season. Remember it took 4 seasons before they put Zach B in a position to succeed.

And yeah, our best players are OLD. It’s time to get younger.

Saints have work to do. A lot.

K Major 02-03-2024 11:17 AM

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

Side note on Taylor … he played poorly at slot, gets beat and you bench him.

Then put him back to his natural spot (boundary) and he gets picks.

Can’t be mad at the player. Be mad at the coaching.

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

Not that it matters at this point because I believe the Saints got a rising star at OC, but I’m curious to see if they believed he was the guy all along or did they have there eyes set on another prize and couldn’t make it happen and settled for Kubiak. Thoughts!!

K Major 02-03-2024 12:00 PM

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

With the offensive mind of Kubiak, it will interesting to see the approach.

Do they fill "needs" in Free Agency?

For me, it's the draft. You gotta start hitting on these picks though. IMO you need another 2017 draft to become relevant down the road & compete with the big boys in late January.

Ramz, Kamara, Marcus Williams, Anzalone, Hendrickson type players ...

My guess is they had a list of acceptable OC's they liked and interviewed most of them (due diligence). I assume Kubiak was on the original list. They may not have had them ranked in any particular order, but they'll never tell.

I can't remember were I saw them, but I read a couple of different sources say that the Saints had Kubiak on the radar from the beginning. Like you said, Danno, due diligence would require interviewing every possible candidate along the way.

I like this move. They (SF) know how to get the ball to a reciving rb. Sometthstvwas lacking in our offense

Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC

I love the move. His dad I always that was a great OC, never a big fan of him as a HC. I just hope the Saint can find an OL coach or Kubiak has the scheme to utilize penning and other young lineman. Imagine if these guys can become just average to above average and not force us to go big in free agency at that position. Seems like the only way to get through this salary cap hell is to start hitting on these younger guys. Go big on the Dline and that’s it.
