Re: Haener v Purdy

I strongly believe there are quite a few Purdy’s out there over the years that were drafted mid to late rounds who could’ve been really good, but sat behind starters because they were viewed as developmental or back ups and never really had an honest shot with starters.
There may be nothing to Haner, but I’m very optimistic about him from what I’ve seen in preseason and I’d love to see what he can do with the starters in a real game situation, and I’m not talking about just closing out a game….im talking about a legit chance.

Re: Haener v Purdy

Apparently the Niners had an in-depth meeting with Haener prior to the draft.

Re: Haener v Purdy

We ought to have Haener as the second-string QB this year so we can find out what we have when Carr needs to be relieved due to injury or a mop-up situation. It will help us a bit with the cap to not carry a veteran backup like Jameis anyway.

Re: Haener v Purdy

I’m not sure we have the same type of talent, players or coaches, to win with a Brock Purdy like the 49ers do. I like Haener, but we’ve had several back up QB’s hyped up that end up being duds. Looking for the diamond in the rough is cool and all, but this franchise has never taken a 1st round QB…and when you look at the history of the position here it shows.

Been saying this since last year... we'll see.
