The real question becomes what happens to Dennis Allen either way? Of course if the Saints win 10 he isn't going anywhere. What about 8 or 9 wins, or what happens if it's 5, 6 or 7 wins, does he keep his job or gets fired?

I jumped all over that 7.5 wins.

It's called a tie. A tie is a half win/half loss. You can see it if you look at winning percentage for a season for a team.

The last tie in the NFL was Giants/Commanders in 2022. The Commanders finished 8-8-1 with a even .500 record. The Saints last year were 9-8 with a .529 winning percentage, and the Succs in 2022 were 8-9 with a .471 winning percentage. Since 8-8-1 is bracketed between the two, the tie counts for half a win.

And it's made a difference too. The Steelers in 2021 were 9-7-1. Because of the tie, they took the last playoff spot over the Dolphins and the Colts who both finished 9-8. Those two finished with a .529 winning percentage while the Steelers finish with a .559.

So a team that's 7-9-1 would have 7.5 wins.
