The NFL is not covered by HIPAA for the injury report because HIPAA covers the Health Insurance (the HI is for insurance), and it is the Team releasing the injury not the Doctor or an insurance company. The NFL is self insured.
It is also in the Ts and Cs of every players contract, they sign it away, just like when I sign away that right to allow my wife access to my medical records.my wife is not bound by HIPAA and can share that information publicly like the NFL does. |
