Derek Carr Retires

Wow...What a strange trip that was.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is set to retire after 11 seasons in the NFL as he is dealing with a shoulder injury that would require surgery, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported on Saturday, per sources.

With Carr retiring, the veteran QB forgoes the $30 million guaranteed this season on his contract, while the Saints won't seek reimbursement for the $10 million roster bonus and signing bonus, Rapoport added.

I didn't hate the guy though he should've handled his time in New Orleans differently.

I wish him well. Truly, thanks for the effort.

But I am wondering if the Saints knew about this and the restructure was part of it. How does his retiring affect the cap?

I think the Saints just dodged a massssssssssive cap issue, but if not, Loomis is a major moron for fully guaranteeing him.

Close the chapter on Dennis Allen.

Close the chapter on Derek Carr.

If he did us a "favor" - great, glad he had enough character left to forego a lot of money he didn't earn.

This is Kellen's team now and I am so glad we are back baby!!!

Saints gonna save some major money and cap he'll they put themselves in?

They need to bring in a vet, I wouldn't start the season with shough. Probability of destroying a young QB before he is ready.

Anything to let shough sit for at least 5 to 8 games and ease in. He needs to fix some footwork issues and get acclimated

I wouldn't mind that at all. That would give us a chance to see what we really have in him. We should have most of the starters early in the season.

I don't dislike Carr but I'm kinda happy he is gone. Gives the new HC a clean slate and he don't HAVE to play the vet over the young guys.
