Is it time for the Saints to give up on Aaron Brooks?
Pete Prisco
I really like Aaron Brooks as a person. And I do think there is talent there. But it might be time for him to go somewhere else. His time seems to have passed with the Saints. He's one of the great teases of our time. He can look absolutely great for stretches, but then make some of the worst decisions a quarterback can make. A few years ago, he looked as if he was on the verge of becoming a dominant passer. But then he has these lapses that make you wonder what the heck he's doing, The Saints have tired of his inconsistent ways, so he's probably going to be playing elsewhere next year if they can find a capable replacement. Brooks is one of those quarterbacks who plays better when the pressure if off. Maybe a change of scenery would be a good thing for him.

Yes. After leading the Saints to the 2000 playoffs he and the club have been spiraling downward, and it's time for both to move on. Brooks isn't responsible for this season's failures, but I would certainly include him when trying to explain why the Saints have gone 32-32 from 2001-2004. He's too careless with the football. He doesn't make enough big plays. And he makes too many big mistakes. Plus, I would never, ever, trust him in a big game. I'm just not sure who's going to show up: The guy who looked so promising in 2000 or the guy who was so erratic in 2004. He has 30 touchdown passes, 29 interceptions and a 10-16 record. I'm sorry, but that won't cut it. When I choose a quarterback I want to see improvement over time, and I want to see a leader the team can trust. I can't find either in Aaron Brooks.
