Next years Bears?

If we happen to have the 3rd pick in the draft and Leinart and Young (who said he isnt coming out) are both not there to be taken... Do we go with AJ Hawk and try to have a solid shut down D and a capable Offense with Bouman... Phillip Rivers... Joey Harrington... or someone along those lines... like the Bears are doing with Kyle Orton...

I know our D isnt quite that good, but I think with a solid MLB and a better D scheme...(Brooks on his way out... Next on the list is Venturi!!!) Grant and Smith both starting FINALLY! Howard has some trade value... We could have a solid DL and LB core... we have an avg. secondary that could be upgraded. Corners are the only weakness... and that isnt so apparent if McKenzie would play like what we thought he would when we traded for him.

I can see us turning this around very fast. We dont need an explosive Offense even though we do have one IF we can find a capable QB to run it. We have long ball threats at WR. A OL that is almost there... a running game that can be solid if everyone was healthy... Now we just need a leader in the huddle... Rothlisberger came in and did it with the Steelers and Orton is doing it with the Bears and Didnt Tom Brady do it with the Patriots???... who says we cant find that one piece to steer this ship straight? Just looking forward cause it looks like the Front Office is!

I think our secondary is better than our LBs, which are average-bad at best. We definitely need immediate upgrades there. In the secondary, if Landry is there in the second round, I take a look at drafting him and move Dwight Smith back to CB, where he wanted to play when he first got here. That gives us two strong corners in he and MckKenzie, and Landry, who can hit and cover, and Bullocks at safety. I think we can get a vet FA QB if Leinart isn't there, and have him manage the team while A-Mac is developing, maybe Griese or someone. If Leinart is there, we take him, and worry about the rest later. HOPEFULLY, we can get enough league incentives to attract some FAs, especially at LB and DT. If we can do that, and come out with a LT somewhere, IMO we would be headed in the right direction.

RE: Next years Bears?

I would draft a shut down corner. QB's in the first round are touch and go. I'd take Leinart in a flash. Young.... well we'll have to see.

What ever happened to Time Couch? Is he stil playing?

Where is Rohan Davey? He lead his team to an NFL Europe championship game, I always thought his intelligence was underestimated at LSU, and when last I heard he was pushing NE for a raise because he was probably able to push Brady.

A local like Rohan could be a win win for us. Draw fans, and I think he's good.

Whodi I agree with you. We probably still need to draft LB. I know we drafted one this year (lost a bet with Halo over that ) but we need to get the LB situation down. Still need some help at secondary but I think that will be deep this year and we can pick up in later rounds. Totally agree wich-ya whodi.

Rohan is sitting at home right now. I can't understand it. He went to the Cards briefly this year, but they dropped him. How is this guy not worth a tryout? Seriously? Maybe down the road. Kurt Warner was bagging groceries when he got back in the league.

Am I the only one impressed with Colby Bockwoldt's play. He was a 7th round draft pick who has not only made the team, but made it into the starting lineup... He plays hard and is usually there on special teams making plays... Hodge isnt an outstanding player, but for a weak side cover LB he gets the job done... MLB is the only real problem I see. Ronald McKinnon? who is that... you never hear his name... Im sure he is there doing his job, but nothing makes him stand out... As I said draft AJ Hawk and we have a solid LB core... I didnt say outstanding...

Our secondary... I just dont have confidence in. I mean when Kyle Orton can drive the field and set up a game winning FG... I see problems. McKenzie is far from a shutdown CB. Look at that Bears game and tell me he is a solid shutdown CB. D. Smith moving to CB would be a small upgrade, but opens up another hole. I love Steve Gleason, but I dont want him starting at Safety. If there is a better CB than FS available I would draft him. Fred Thomas is decent one game and looks bad the next. I dont know how you think our starting DBs with 5 TOTAL INTs are not a weakspot.

The stats are off balanced because we are always trailing... the other teams run the ball more and pass less. I dont consider our passing D top 5 in the league, but thats where we are in passing yards allowed... However, look at opposing QB's passer rating and its 87.7 which is 26th in the league. Im not saying both cant be upgraded, but I think a better secondary with a better scheme that our DL is capable of... (much like the Bears this year... Alex Brown and Adewale Ogunleye??? I think Will Smith and Charles Grant could be a better DE tandum) I think a different Def. Coordinator could make that Defense a more respectable unit... Venturi hasnt done his job in years...

its impressive that he can start for our Defense... not really....he is only marginally descent and cant start for most teams....

Pack pretty much said it all. As far as opposing QBs passer ratings, is that all on the secondary, or on the D0line as well for not getting a consistent rush? Why did Kyle Orton have the time to drive down the field throwing? Did we knock him on his ass? As a team we only have 22 sacks, which is pretty low. And McKenzie isn't a bad corner, he just gambles too much. He needs to reign that in. And I really don't know how you can say Dwight Smith at CB and us draftng Landry for safety is not a big upgrade. But to each his own. I am FAR less impressed with the LBs than withthe secondary.

im quoting myself b/c i want to further expain what else i think... all of our linebackers are marginally descent but how many of them do u think can start for other teams? hodge? he is just a pure letdown... when he came out of the draft he ran the fastest 40 of any linebacker but yet he just isnt a play maker.... neither is bockwoldt or james allen or ronald mckinnon?who the hell is ronald mckinnon.... T.J. Slaughter... great name.... no skill......i havent seen any of fincher........have any of you guys? terrence melton? geez this just keeps getting better........none of our linebackers are playmakers ...... out of the top 5 leaders in tackles on our team... 3 of them are safetys/corners...... our linebackers just dont make plays and that is what u have to have at that position to have any chance of having a solid NFL defense.......PLAYMAKERS

Please, for the love of Danno, bring in some good linebackers.

Slaughter layed the wood on Monday. I enjoyed that and only that from the linebackers.
I want to see what Fincher can do. And maybe Watson at WLB. But bring in some talent at that position and challenge these garden-variety players.

Bring in some good defensive tackles too. I was really hoping for Pat Williams last off-season despite his age. Where's Rodney Leisle? I was eager to see him play. Another Cie Grant?
