Here in Austin Vince has said numorous times that he will be happy to play for who ever drafts him. He said he is just happy to be in the situation he is in. His momma was on ESPN radio saying the same thing, and she was screaming, "We gettin paid!! Momma gettin a new Escalade!!!"

I believe either QB would be a welcome addition to the team over Brooks, but when it comes down to it, one glaring statistic remains: In 39 years, a predominantly running QB has never won a Super Bowl. The closest one to do it was Steve Young (1), but by most accounts, he was still considered a pocket passer, especially at that point in his career.

Scouting Reports

Quarterback | Senior | Southern Cal Matt Leinart
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 225 | 40-Time: 4.80

Official Bio

Strengths:
The consummate team leader and field general whose leadership abilities and intangibles are off the charts...Can dissect a defense with the best of them...Good size and a solid frame...Has good throwing mechanics...Shows excellent touch and puts the ball where is wideouts can make plays...Extremely productive...Has ice in his veins and seems to rise to the occasion in the biggest games...Tough player and a gamer...Very smart and makes good decisions...Mature young man with his head on straight...All he does is win...Is ready to start in the NFL now.

Weaknesses:
Durability is a concern since he had a major shoulder injury to his throwing arm in high school and then had elbow surgery prior to his senior campaign with the Trojans...Arm strength is adequate but nothing to write home about...Some question whether he is really as good as he has looked or more of a product of the system and supporting cast...Is not in Carson Palmer's class physically.

Notes:
Heisman Trophy winner who opted to return to school for his final year of eligibility despite being projected as the #1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft...In the mold of Tom Brady as a guy who more than makes up for any physical shortcomings he may have with top intangibles...Will be one of the first players chosen and could be the type of guy you can build a franchise around.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quarterback | Junior | Texas Vince Young
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 233 | 40-Time: 4.45

Official Bio

Strengths:
Has the type of rare athletic ability that is hardly ever seen...Size is ideal with great height and a solid frame...Great speed and quickness...Outstanding runner and scrambler with tremendous vision...Arm strength is good, but not great...Has a quick release...Still has a lot of upside and got better each year while making a huge leap as a junior...Amazing leader and field general with top intangibles...A gamer who comes up big in the clutch...Can take over and dominate a game.

Weaknesses:
Has an extremely awkward delivery...Mechanics might have to be reworked...Very raw as a passer and is still a better athlete than quarterback right now...Doesn't read defenses all that well...Will make some poor decisions...Needs to adjust to taking snaps from under center and playing in a pro style offense...Might need to sit and learn for a year or two before he is ready to start at the next level.

Notes:
Has as much potential as any player the draft has ever seen...Any team selecting him will be making a huge gamble on greatness with a very high risk / reward factor...ProtÃÃâ€*’©gÃÃâ€*’© of Steve McNair, who has been like a father figure to him since his sophomore year in high school...More advanced than Michael Vick was coming out of college and could be a transcendent star who revolutionizes the position.

It appears that Lienart could start the first year, where Young needs a couple of years on the sidelines learning. I think we need someone who can step in immediately in the worst way. If Loomis and the new HC have the wherewithall to draft a QB first then I think Lienart is the best choice. Alot will depend on who is selected as the HC.

Just about all of the NFL scouts are saying the same thing about Vince Young: Raw talent & athleticism. They say Young will need a while in the NFL to be ready & that he will be a work in progress. Sounds alot like Aaron Brooks to me. I don't know about you guys, but I've seen about all the work in progress QB I want to see in Black & Gold.

Leinart, however, while not having the elite QB arm (but still stronger than V. Young), is a proven winner. He comes from an NFL type system & his mechanics are great. He reads defenses well & while not being a great scrambler, moves well in the pocket to avoid pressure. While I like Vince Young's leadership, etc.., Leinart is the better NFL ready QB.

Draft Leinart & Bobby Carpenter & get us a coach (w/ a whole new staff) who wants to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, grest post Deuce. i don't see how it can be any clearer.

Second, Leinart and bobby Carpenter. Good QB, good LB. Both can start from day one. Where is the problem?

Vince will have to learn a totaly new offensive scheme too. He wont be able to run that option read or whatever they call it that Texas is running. It has to be Lienart or trade down. Young may surprise but is it a chance we can afford to take.

I think maybe it is a chance that we can't afford not to take. You have got to have a strong field general and you would have that in Lienart. Given the past Brooks will never be the "MAN" with the Saints in the future.

"Young is a great competitor, that's the thing you have to like about him. But be careful about his athleticism. It's a great attribute but he doesn't have Michael Vick's suddenness. He's got real good speed, but it's not world-class speed, and you see what eventually happens to the guys in this league -- they get beat up and they slow down. He is strong for a fairly lean guy. And you have to like his size. But if you do the film cut-ups on just his throws from last night's game, you're going to be fairly unimpressed."
