At this point, I'd love to see us get either Ferguson or Hawk somewhere around 4. I really don't think TE V. Davis is gonna be our pick and I really don't think we'll consider a qb until the later rounds because we're gonna look to sign a player before or after the draft to compete with Bouman and AMac ... just a gut feeling ...

here is my thought process... payton moves brown to the left side so we got a good LT to protect brees.... he wont spend a top 5 pick on a RT no matter how good he is... we wont take leinert b/c we have brees and he is expected to make a full recovery... so either we are going to trade down and take williams or hawk... now i would rather hawk but williams would be good in my book as well.. the guy is a freak, in a year, he could easily be our best DE... and i also believe that we will be looking for a RT in the 2nd round... there are a lot of good RT prospects that will be available at that position in the draft... if we do trade down with the jets... our draft could end up looking like this.... Hawk or williams at 4... mangold at 29... any good LB or corner prospect at 34 and any good RT prospect with 36.... with those 4 picks we just filled 4 needs.... i think that would be great!

The only player worth taking at #2 is Williams. If we trade down, then I'm leaning towards Hawk. If we end up stuck at #2, then we should probably bite the bullet and take Williams (gosh I hate that I'm saying that).
But IF we take Williams, we need to deal Grant. Grant should for sure land us another 1st day selection, or at best another late 1st round selection (I'm thinking basically from the Broncos or the Jets). In that case, we'd still be in a good position to pick up Mangold, Carpenter, Hodge or even Youboty. I think it's dumb to draft a 3rd DE, but I don't mind drafting a new starting DE and dealing Grant, provided we can get value for him. Grant isn't great against the run, but a lot of teams would like his pass rush ability. |

Also, another thing that pisses me off is that the national media keeps pointing to our poor pass rush last season as a defense for us drafting another DE in Williams. I wonder if they even know who our DTs or LBs are? The reason why we had such a poor pass rush is because they're OL could double team our DEs while single-teaming our weakass DTs and not even have to worry about our no name LBs because they pretty much were worthless. If we draft a guy like Wroten in the second, or somebody else who is a force to actually be reckoned with, then I think our two very good DEs would be able to have stellar years. |
