Peter King MMQB

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I dunno if I can ever remember King talking about the Saints so much. Good comments about being in the catbird seat in the draft and about Super Mario if you scroll down. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...410/index.html...

True. We do have a lot of options, and I don't know what exactly is the right choice. But honestly, I don't think we can go wrong as long as we trade down to #3 or #4 and get at least another 2nd rounder.

I think the beauty of our draft this year is that there is no wrong choice, really. We can take Matt at 2, or we can trade down and take Hawk or Brick, hell even mario williams is a good choice, even if we dont immediately need him.
the only way we could screw this up would be to trade the entire draft plus our first next year so we can pick at number32 and finally take Chase Lyman again.

I'm not big on drafting Mario because we already have two solid DE's, but I did read an article on him yesterday where he said that Lawrence Taylor was his hero.He also said that he would welcome the change to OLB if that's what whoever drafted him wanted. Though I would like to see the Hawk in black & gold, Super Mario at OLB doesn't sound bad either. I guess we'll have to wait until draft day, because Payton hasn't let on to his game plan yet. Smart coach!

If we took Super Mario, we really need to look at dealing Grant. Going into a contract year, we might not be able to get the value for him that we'd have now. Maybe dealing Grant to the Jets or the Broncos could net us several quality picks or even a player. There are a lot of holes on this team and I'm not opposed to giving this coaching staff a chance to plug as many as they can via this draft which is so deep in areas of real need for us.

I'm not as opposed to the Mario pick as I was a couple of weeks ago. At this point, I still favor Hawk though.

BMG, I too was opposed to drafting Mario, but he seems to be a team player with the athleticism to play more than one position. Will Smith can also play OLB, so we'll have to see what the draft will bring.

Guys, seriously, Woodard can play linebacker, but that's not his position, just like Mario could play OLB, but he's a DE and not a LB. Why would we draft a guy who has never learned the OLB techniques and definitely doesn't have the right body for OLB with our highest pick when there's a guy who is supposed to be one of the best LBs in recent memory coming out? Why do that and hope that he can make the transition when he's never played a snap at LB in his college career? Why do that and pass up on Brick or Hawk or somebody else? It just doesn't make sense. I'm still extremely opposed to taking him. Will Smith is a superstar, and I still think Grant is the most underrated DE in the league. We don't NEED a DE, and we sure as hell don't need to gamble our first pick in the draft hoping that Mario Williams can make the transition to LB.

Easy Deuce, I agree with you. Hawk is the guy I want too. Brick would be my second choice. I'm just preparing myself for if we draft this guy. I know his size is more that of a DE. I'm just saying he might not be a bad pick. Hell, Shawn Merriman is a big guy at LB, but he had a pretty good season by any standards.
