Trading Dwight Smith?
I just read on CBSSportsline where Pete Prisco is reporting that the Saints are shopping Dwight Smith around and have been for some time. They have been asking for a third round pick in exchange for our best safety. This has been going on even before we signed Keith Davis to an offer sheet. Maybe now that Dallas has matched, Loomis will come to his senses and stop shopping around the key to our secondary.
I know how great this draft crop is and yes it makes sense to aquire as many picks as possible, but why trade Dwight for a third round pick? Even if it were the first pick in the third round, would that be worth our best safety/corner? I was thinking that our secondary might look pretty good on paper this year with Mike and Dwight at corner and B. Scott and J. Bullocks at safety along with Omar, Fred and co. Now it looks like the key member might be traded for a freakin third round pick! Please tell me this is just an old rumor or old news that will never come to fruition. Also, Prisco stated that the Saints really want to trade down and pick A.J. Hawk and are putting out a Leinhart smoke screen in order to sucker the Jets to trade up. I wouldn't mind that at all, but I also would like to see The Brick in black and gold. |

RE: Trading Dwight Smith?
Maybe we could package him and Grant to Green Bay for Javon Walker and their #5? That would rock, we get Super Mario and Hawk.
WhoDi would LOVE this. |

RE: Trading Dwight Smith?
I don't think it's a good idea to get rid of Smith. Although, with all the free agent moves to get more guys into the secondary, it definately looks like they are trying to gid rid of someone.

I can't even fathom the thought process that went into deciding to trade Dwight Smith. I am just at a loss. Why would we trade him? He is our best DB, no offense to McKenzie. Unless they think Michael Huff is the best player in the draft, or Brian Scott can really get it done, this move makes no sense to me. None.

I don't even have to say what I think of trading D. Smith for a 3rd rounder. It seems my premonition about the same old Benson bulls**t is happening again. Damnit! And I was just starting to get optimistic about our FO again. I gotta' get a drink!

no way you trade D Smith. not for a 3rd rounder, not for anything....unless some team is saying "of course we'll trade Polamalu for smith"...or..."Roy Williams for Smith, that sounds fair"
No, I don't say he is as good as those boys, but he was our equivilant (and yes I do know he plays FS and those two play SS, so chill). MM should take no offense...Smith was our best secondary guy last year. We spent three years watching T-suck stink up the backfield, and in one year smith quietly came in and got it done. I say this is just rumor and speculation. I want to hear trade sully talk, personally!!! |

I'm selling this. I don't see why in the world the front office would even be looking to get rid of Dwight Smith. He's the most effective playmaker in that secondary. What's a brotha gotta do to get a link around here?
