The New Orleans Saints have signed S Jay Bellamy and placed S Roman Harper on injured reserve, it was announced today by the club. Bellamy (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) is a 13-year veteran, including the last five seasons with the Saints. During his career - including from 1994-2000 with Seattle - he has played in 165 games, with 122 starts. Bellamy was an extremely productive player while with the Saints, starting all 67 games he played in and posting 451 tackles (334 solo), 4.5 sacks, nine interceptions, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He was released Sept. 5 as the team made final determinations on the active roster heading into the regular season. Harper, a second-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, was off to solid rookie season. He started the first five games and ranks fourth on the club in tackles with 33 (26 solo) and also has a sack, two pass defenses and a forced fumble. |

RE: Saints sign Bellamy
Well, I guess one good thing is that he's familiar with the defense.

He's not as athletic as Harper, but he has a ton of veteran savvy and we know he's a fairly solid player. Plus, with real linebackers playing with him, he won't be forced to be all-world and be the savior on defense like has been in the past (at times).

i think we were joking about this on another thread...
Bellamy was a leading tackler on our team once or twice, he was one of my favorite of the Haslett era ,but... i'm echoing whodi. "UGH" Jay, please prove me wrong. Please have 10 INT's, 8 sacks, 110 tackles, 7 FF's, 15 FR's, and a pro-bowl year. |

I am hoping that Bryan Scott can get healthy and have him be the dime backer and keep Bellamy and Gleason off the field on defense. I can live with Bullocks, Stoutmire, and Scott being the top 3. But isnt it funny how we are all upset about losing Harper when none of us agreed with picking him?
