Hear me out...Brees for MVP?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; That's an interesting point about co-MVP. I think this whole thing boils down to that billion year-old argument: "How do you define most valuable player?" The guys in the LT camp have it pretty easy. They can just sit there ...

That's an interesting point about co-MVP. I think this whole thing boils down to that billion year-old argument: "How do you define most valuable player?"

The guys in the LT camp have it pretty easy. They can just sit there and point their fingers' and say look at this guy, look at every freakin record he smashed this year. And they have a point, the guy is, IMO, the best player in the NFL hands down. If you went by pure statistics and records broken and that kind of approach, there's no question that LT is the best player in the league. But is he the most valuable? This, I'm not so sure about. I define most valuable player as a guy in the lineup who helps his team win, and if he isn't there, that team has absolutely no shot of winning. If LT was gone, would the Chargers still win? I think they could. You give them a middle of the road NFL running back in his place, they still have a solid team. Rivers at QB, Antonio Gates at TE, and a ferocious defense. Hell, the Ravens are basically doing it.

So let's look at Brees, although he lacks behind LT in the sheer statistical domination of some pretty monumental NFL records, he's not doing too shabby in the stats department himself. He's on course to have one of the greatest seasons ever posted by a QB in the history of this league. His passing yards are completely ridiculous, and he's got 25 TDs and 10 INTs. That's a dang good season. But, forget the stats for a minute, let's look at his pure value to this team. He's the leader. He came in and took control of this team, a team that lacked so much focus some people probably considered prescribing the whole team a few thousand mils of aderol. He has involved virtually everybody in this offense. In fact, his 4-yard pass to that TE last night (don't know his name) was his 14th different receiver he's gotten involved this season; which I believe is an NFL record. I've never seen a team more evenly spread out when it comes to statistics (except for Brees himself). He's leading the highest ranked offense in the NFL to the playoffs after they finished second-worst in the league last season. Without him, this team falls apart. He's the centerpiece of the most dominant offense in the NFC for sure, and IMO, the NFL. We've all seen what this team did without him the last few years (sucked and sputtered and wasted talent). Drew Brees should be at least the co-MVP, but that's because of my definition of valuable.
