Loomis getting some credit

This was from NFL.com. Unsung Heroes: Cream rising to the top Mickey Loomis, general manager, New Orleans Saints Loomis has lots of help on the football-evaluation side from his staff, but he is the one constant in the Saints organization. He has been there through the bad times as well as the great run New Orleans is presently on. The Saints are the only team in NFL history to go from a 13-loss season to the conference title game in one year. The single most important thing Loomis did in the past year is hire Sean Payton, followed by signing Drew Brees and drafting Reggie Bush. The Saints have the No. 1 offense in the NFL and close to $28 million in salary-cap space for next year. Believe me, under Loomis, New Orleans suddenly is a very desirable place to play. I did not know the Saint had so much cap room. I hope they use some of that on the D next season. |

some of the most aggressive pooling together of talent I've seen in one season in the 22 years I've been a Saints fan. I'd always be psyched if we got one respectable person either on the field or on the sidelines but the bringing together of this team this year is to quote the venerable Apocalypse Now:
"Smells like victory". |
