Moratorium on Bashing Friday 12:00am

We have a long 10 days until Tampa, which will only be made longer if the negative posts continue. Let's get it out of our systems by midnight tonite.

If the sky hasn't completely fallen by then, let's focus on our very good football team that missed the Super Bowl by one game, got stronger in the off-season, and has overcome adversity (and blowout losses) in the past.

Re: Moratorium on Bashing Friday 12:00am

Scott,

Not a bad idea. I actually locked myself out of the Sports Radio loop here in Atlanta today. Didn't turn it on at all. The loss was tough enough (and yes I did stick it out to the bitter end last night) but having to listen to the hyperpbole on the radio wasn't going to be productive.

In terms of losses, while it's probably the most embarrassing, in reality it's really the lightest loss we could take in terms of playoff positioning. It's a loss the division champion of the AFC group that we play this year. Let's remember that we went 1-3 against the AFC last year. We secured the #2 seed because we took care of business against the critical teams on our schedule. In order:

1) Division foes (4-2)
2) NFC Conference foes (9-3 overall, 5-1 against non division NFC teams)

Beating the NCF was critical in making the Saints the #2 seed last year.

The Tampa game is literally 3 times more critical than the thumping the team took last night.

I didn't listen to the radio or watch espn once today, but I did get a black rose from an admirer that said "sorry for your loss".

You know I have been a Saints fans since the beginning and nothing phases me anymore! Except for those 2 int's that Brees threw last night. Why was he trying to complete passes to the Colt's secondary when Manning was doing a fine job all by himself.

Re: Moratorium on Bashing Friday 12:00am

Since its not midnight my time yet, I'll guess I will put my two "saints" (Get it, ok kinda lame) in. We've all been riding on a huge wave of hope and hype, only to let it crash down to a harsh reality. After last night's game, I was so amped up, I got home and ran about three miles, which was pretty amazing after I had drank about seven beers during the game. When I woke up, I ran another two miles cuz I was still so upset. I've been a Saints fan all my life and I never in my life would have thought Superbowl. I am too scared to get back to mediocrity and accept it. Well after midnite, I am swallowing this loss because we still have.... hope. Who Dat.

The Saints stunk against the Colts.

Did you guys see Fujita last night? The guys a stud. I like him. I like him a lot.
Eric Johnson looks to be a great pickup for the Saints. He'll help this offense become better than last years offense.
Lance Moore appears to be the next Michael Lewis.
How about Weatherford? Booming leg. And he's athletic enough to take a botched snap and run for a first down like he did last year.

Yes, this is a "silver lining" post. This is the most talented team in Saints history. The defense looked horrible last night against the superbowl champs--in the second half. Okay. I can deal with that.
The offense was offensive but we all know what this offense is capable of. Brees, McAllister, Bush, Colston, Brown, Karney, Faine, and Johnson? I'm geeked about this offense.

Get your frustrations out if you must. Just don't go overboard with this loss. I hate losses too but it would be silly to assume that the 2007 season is over.

It was the superbowl champs at home with concerts all day. Remember the Atlanta game and how bad they looked that night? And and AFC team, so no harm there. We need to kick some butt in our division starting next sunday, come home and make some noise. We will forget about this game untill January '08.

I am not bashing the so much a b-slapping the fans. All this hype about the super bowl and stuff has been to much. Wins in the NFC does not count. We did not beat one of the elite AFC teams last year. Till then I do not believe we are there. We are 0-1 against being an elite team in the nfl this year. The division title counts but it does not make us a great team. Good yes, great no. We still have a long way to go

As an NFC team they absolutely do count. You don't win in the NFC you don't get the opportunity to get to the playoffs and play the AFC representative.

We did not beat one of the elite AFC teams last year. Till then I do not believe we are there. We are 0-1 against being an elite team in the nfl this year. The division title counts but it does not make us a great team. Good yes, great no. We still have a long way to go
No disagreement there. It was clear from the game that our offense still hasn't learned how to dictate to an opposing defense even when that defense is trying to take something in particular away. They didn't figure out how to break the zone.

Also it's painfully obvious that we do not yet have championship caliber defense yet. I wasn't one of my expectations.

The final problem with the AFC is that the next time we see an elite AFC team will either be in Arizona or sometime next season. Elite AFC teams play each other each and every year because all the AFC #1's play one another each year. We simply don't get that opportunity.

So work with what you've got. Beat the best of the NFC and keep trying to figure out the AFC. That's what Philly, Chicago, Seattle, and other top level NFC teams have been trying to figure out for years.

Just keep plugging.

Re: Moratorium on Bashing Friday 12:00am

We definitely need to get away from all the man to man defense if we're not going to truly address the cornerback issue. We need to also address the defensive tackle position. Addai was chomping at the bit everytime he touched the ball, no fear = lots of yards. Coach Payton needs to stop all the flashy bull**** with Bush. He is part of the team, not the savior. Hell Brees isn't even the savior anymore, not after that bull****. Brees needs to either throw the ball away or to the receiver, not intentionally throw it to the opposing team. Which is exactly what it looked like he was doing. Payton needs to remember what worked for us last year and not change it until it doesn't work. Sometimes we try to out think people before they do it to us and it backfires and in this case the entire team was on fire on the sidelines. How could you not go for it on 4th down knowing it could change the game? How could you not drive the ball down their throats on the first drive of the second half knowing it could change the game? How could you not change the gameplan at halftime knowing it didn't work in the first half and could change the entire game? YOUR STUPID EGO GOT IN THE WAY, THAT'S WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reality is that b of a wife or the best girlfriend you ever had. I think my x came back the other night just to b slap me!
