Analyzing The Saints (fmpov)
Watching the Saints first two games of the 2007 season has been painfully excruciating to say the lest. I've watched those two games a few times and I've broken each game down by position because I'm as confused as anyone to what is really going on. Now I'm not putting my home team down in anyway, but this is just a few things I noticed.
This is part one, the offense: OFFENSE COACHING - Sean Payton hasn't been he usual wizardly self the first two games of the season. His play calling looks to be a lil timid, not as aggressive as last year, maybe it has something to do with execution I don't know. I think his biggest problem is in his personnel decisions. We went out and sign FA's this year yet we don't play them, if it's obvious to the average fan that some players are not capable of performing their duties than it should be obvious to the coaching staff. But I do think he's going to get it together real soon, keep in mind this is just his second year of HCing experience. QUARTERBACK - Drew Brees looks a lil off on a few of his throws, at certain times during the game he doesn't look to comfortable in the pocket. Last year he would adjust on the fly and look brilliant alibiing at times, this year he just don't seem to have that knack right now for whatever reason, and his accuracy is suffering now for it. Now do I think he's going to get back to his old self? Deffinantly. Do I think it has a lot to do with blocking or the lack thereof? For sure. RUNNING BACK - We all were waiting to see Reggie Bush breakout this season and well, we're still waiting. I watched Reggie during the preseason like everybody else and thought, man this is going to be his year, but through the first two games he's running like he did during the first two games last year, side to side and way too much shuffling. To me Deuce is being Deuce, he's running hard and he's running aggressively. Now I noticed one thing about Deuce and just on a couple of runs, he seems to be falling forward without being hit which might be from anticipating someone being in the hole and his momentum just pulling him forward, maybe. Oh yes, the fumbling. What the hell is up with that? STATS: Deuce 20-87-4.4, Reggie 22-65-3.0. his has to get better in a hurry. WIDE RECEIVER - First of all, Devery Henderson 3 catches, Terrance Copper 1 catch has caught the same amount of passes as David Patten combined (4). Now wasn't DH and TC was supposed to be 2 of the top three, now it looks like DH and TC won't be back next year. Colston's being Colston 14-117, Eric Johnson is real steady 11-75 (needs to be thrown to more down field) and David Patten 4-84-21.0, has emerged as the top three wideouts and should see the bulk of Brees throws (hopefully). One thing I don't understand about our passing game is why we don't implement plays like Philly has with Westbrook for Bush (10-50) do the math, what happened to getting Reggie into space? Plus, way too many drops by the receiver corps don't help Brees's confidence, we have to get that clean up immediately. OFFENSIVE LINE - What happened to these guys? They went from one of the best units in the league to not being able to block the sun with shades on. If you want to point at an individual group having an effect on the lack of success of the offense, point away. Looking at these guys over and over again, they're playing horrible, simply HORRIBLE. Nobody in this league should be getting pressure on Drew with a four man rush, RIDICULOUS. No pass protection, no running lanes, no cohesiveness, they're playing like they just met one another, what was once a strength is now a glaring weakness. They better get their acts together because, without them there is no offense. |

Re: Analyzing The Saints (fmpov)
Keys to success:
- Drink a good fifth of Crown before taking the field. - At halftime, take in another few shots of whiskey to maintain on-field excellence. - Defensive line constantly yells, "HUT HUT, HUT HUT", and other obscenities at the top of their lungs. - Apply as many cheap hits on Vince Young as opportunity permits. Even late hits out of bounds. - Offensive players feel free to accidently overrun the sideline to apply hits to Vince Young. - Special Teams players, always stay in your lanes...which are right through Vince Young on the sidelines. - Before post-game handshakes, have another drink, and apply more cheap hits to Vince Young. And those are your Toyota Keys to Success. P.S. Upon being confronted by Roger Goodell for usage of any of the previous keys, yell, "THINK FAST!" and apply a cheap hit. haha, this is all jest of course! |

hah, nope, this is Saints keys to victory. "everyone's gunning for you"....well it's time to start gunning back. At the quarterback, specifically.
