this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Ever wonder why they call the guy who stands all the way back in the offense a "halfback" and the guy who stands in between two guys is called a "fullback?" Karney doesn't have the same atheleticism Alstott had back ...

Karney doesn't have the same atheleticism Alstott had back in the day. |

well John Carney is a kicker and Mike Karney is a full back but I'm not sure who John Karney is lol I know it was just a typo it doesn't matter anyway this horse has been beat well beyond death and we all know this will never happen anyway so what difference does it make |

Re: Why not Karney as our Hammer Back???
Well, lets see how the other guys do in the lead roll. I love Karney as a FB, not sure I really want to see him carry the ball 25 times a game. I agree that he should be kept in the game on most plays, as a blocker. At least he is about at the same playing weight, 258, that Deuce was. Come on, you guys really believed Deuce was only 230ish? I would say Deuce was playing closer to the 245 range. Maybe Karney can be an Alstott kind of guy, but I hope not. To me, Alstott was just an average blocker who got a few nice carries here and there. I would rather see Karney become the lead blocker of all time and spring Reggie for a 1600 yard season.

Re: Why not Karney as our Hammer Back???
Bellichick would use Karney as a RB no matter what his position is supposed to be if it woudl win games.

Re: Why not Karney as our Hammer Back???
You are absolutely correct. I just disagree that Karney at HB would be effective. Maybe you take a page out of the Bellichick playbook and run an LB at FB and then put Mike at HB in short yardage situations, maybe a package with Karney as a single back would work for a series, but I don't think it would work as a long-term solution.
