Maybe it's a pipe dream, but I would be pretty pleased to see either one of those guys at Millsaps next summer. Thoughts?

Vilma is my favorite linebacker in the league, i was so mad when the jets traded up and took him a few years ago

Vilma would be great. I'd pass on Zach, though. He's a little long in the tooth.

Not gonna happen. The Saints don't go after big name guys except Brees because nobody wanted him coming off injury

Why are we still talking about veterans for our defense?? Don't we have enough players who are "long in the tooth".... We could have filled some glaring holes in this year's draft.

Please no more second/third tier veteran defenders.

Vilma is 25. He was the 04 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He made the Pro Bowl last year. I'd hardly call that long in the tooth or "second/third tier".

I'm lathered up about Vilma. This is the type of guy we need on the LB corp to help Fuji out.

I'd love to see Vilma as a Saint. Not only is he a very good linebacker but also active in the community. Go for it.

Vilma is a great pick up if it happens. I think we may go for one defensive position next year. But I think the following year it is almost definite. They will complete the OL next year I believe and then do the defense
Here is a list of FA LB in 2008. Not updated but it is complete.

Sorry for the Thread Jack, but Hagan got me thinking...Jamie Martin is a UFA next year and it's probably time to cut ties. I assume Palko is the logical choice, but it's definitely time to start thinking about a back-up.

Other Guys to Possibly Cut:
Terrance Copper
Mark Simoneau
Jay Bellamy

Guys to Possibly Resign:
Eric Johnson (if he keeps it up)
David Patten(One or two year deal only)

Some other interesting guys:
Jamal Lewis (He's only 27 and if Deuce doesn't recover...I'm just sayin')
Alan Faneca (Home town boy, 30 years old, means you can cut ties with Nesbit and still give Alleman time to develope.)
Albert Haynesworth (hopefully he's put his face-kicking days behind him)

If the Saints could land Faneca and Vilma in the FA market, that would be a huge windfall...it'll never happen, but a guy can dream, right?
