Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

That was the MIGHTY JAGUARS rushing attack being held to under 100 yards today. That's right, THE BIG BAD JAGS! HA! I'm laughing so hard right now at those folks on this forum who thought Jacksonville was going to run all over us, what in the HELL do you have to say now? THE SAINTS GREAT DEFENSIVE FRONT held the Jaguars rushing attack to 88 total rushing yards, thats right 88 yards, that's six games in a row people, it's about time for you negative kats to start giving credit where credit is due. CONGRATULATIONS BOYS, you have officially turn it around.:D

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

I say keep it up! I do not like the big pass plays, but if you keep teams from running, it usually means a win. The Saints stopped a very potent running attack today.

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

So how many games is this now with less than 100 yards rushing?? And not to mention we had 3 picks (one for a touchdown)...I'm liking this.

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

We lived with Gray passing the ball and putting 8 and sometimes 9 in the box. The DLine did a nice job though. Jags were behind all game and had to pass. They didn't run as much as usually do.

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Even Wynn played today.

MatthewT 11-04-2007 09:21 PM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Wynn had an exceptional game. He had 2 sacks on the QB. I am glad he has been given an opportunity to contribute. It really does not look that bad if the Saints have to go a little deeper on the roster when it comes to defense. We actually have some very good backups. How about having a guy like Simmons as a backup? Did he have a great game or what? How about when Grant went out, I would say Cooper did a very nice job today also.

WillMacKenzie 11-04-2007 09:24 PM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

I think that's the great thing about having so much competition at training camp and through preseason! The backups get great practice, and they're almost like second starters

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

From what I read.....this is our seventh straight game holding a teams rushing attack to under 100. That ties a record stretch that the Dome Patrol had in 1991. VERY NICE!!!

I just wondering what Dion "THE CRACKHEAD" Sanders have to say about this, I can't wait.

Both DL and OL played great today! This line play has made the difference IMHO.

The winning is very much because of the D-Line.

Thats what it is all about. depth and a solid rotation

I wouldn't crow about holding a team under 100 yards that didn't run much because they were torching our secondary.

That's like saying you're pleased that the number of fires that destroyed homes were low during Katrina.

Agree wholeheartly, they are both playing well. Does my bias for the lines stick out to much? LOL. ;)

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Take away that one big play in the first half and how exactly did they torch our secondary? They were playing catch up football in the second half... of course they had to throw the football and were going to put up yardage.

I'm pretty sure our gameplan was to stop the run and make Quinn beat us. And judging by the outcome of the game, mission accomplished.

Ahhh this thread must be for me... I DO!

Do you know how much they are getting paid??? Are they seriously living up to there salaries? ONE decent game with team and problems at QB and you think we have a pro-bowl D? They scored 24 on us still. Our DE's did what???

Sorry still not impressed. What won the game for us was the Offense pure and simple.

Budsdrinker 11-05-2007 11:29 AM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

24 points. One blown coverage for 80 yd TD. 1 return for TD. That means only 1 sustained drive for a TD and 1 FG. That's not bad defense. I'll take it. Offense won the game but the defense did enough to allow that to happen.

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

No, they're not sucking but they're not playing great either. Granted they have performed well against the run, but there is still a terrible lack of QB pressure. We have some bad QB's putting up decent numbers without much pressure at all.

Hey buddy, do me a favor. If ever you decide to say something good about the Saints, please PM me first. You know I have a bad heart and another heart attack might just do me in.:D

Thats fine if you are happy with doing what you claim against a team who started a QB who was and still unknown to the NFL.

They scored 24 points against us period. Give credit to the Offense for scoring a lot and often. When you got names on that line making top dollar and set high expectations of themselves and running at the mouth how many sacks they are going to get and they don't even get a fraction of that so far this season... you have issues.

You can take it all you want but you got .500 ball. We have a weak schedule coming up and sure its going to inflat some stats but maybe good for the team as a whole but we will be exposed shortly.

I say good things... Mike had a great INT. We won... with a great offense performance.

It wasn't a bad game for us but to sit here and say we looked like a SB contender against a team with a no name QB isn't time to roll out the victory parade just yet.

Patriots have a reason to roll out there parade after there victory... they beat a SB team and a contender.

Our Oline has got better without Faine... hell we managed a screen pass for a TD did anyone catch that... Faines wasn't out there with his finger up his butt.

Yeah and the Pats just barely beat Indy and Indy was missing probably the best WR in the game. So just because the Jags had a no name QB doesn't mean they aren't a quaility NFL team. This no name QB beat Tampa in his first game and by the way I do believe Tom Brady was a no name QB when he stepped in for Bledsoe.

See you are taking things out of context.

They made the statement and haven't backed it up.

During the game where were they??? They didn't contribute to the win regardless of stats or performance. It was the Offense that did that. They haven't lived up to the hype they generated nor the money they are getting PERIOD.

The Pats and Colts game was just what has always happened... it went down to the last play of the game generally, like most of there contests, regardless of Harrison.

For nearly 3 quarters it was a close game against a team with a no name QB. Its a little harder to replace your QB than it is a WR. Will the WR be missed... sure-possible. Will the QB be missed? In most cases YES! Just last week people here were saying we were going to win because the QB was out.

Your QB is out and that definately changes your game planning. You aren't the same team... in most cases.

What exactly are you wanting from our Defense Euph? To shut down evey team for no points? To allow 0 yards rushing? 10 sacks a game? We are winning. The defense is playing better. where do the they have to be for you to say yeah..our defense is good?

Since we torched the Jags is their defense bad?

I expect players making MULTI-MILLION dollar contracts to play up to what they are worth. We aren't getting what we paided for... this will only make them expendable in the off-season.

Its simple business will you pay 100,000 for a car thats only worth 10,000... if so call me I got a car for you!

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

First of all, let's stop this crap about a no named QB, the Jaguars game plan is never, ever, about the QB. Please, refresh my memory here, who is David Garrard? I mean, I know he is their starter but, he was as much of a nobody as Grey before he got his chance. How many Pro Bowls have Garrard played in? I just don't think Garrard would've made any kind of difference in the game, not the way the Saints were playing. I mean the Jags had enough confidence in Grey as a backup to let Leftwich go without blinking, bottom line the Saints shut down one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL and it had nothing to do with their QB. And PLEASE, stop saying that they were way behind and abandoned the run, it was still a game when Jones-Drew ran that kickoff back, they had the momentum and still couldn't generate a rushing game. 4 - 4, and yet they're still not playing good ball? Well, if they can run off another 8 wins playing the way they are, I'll be right right there with my Black and Gold umbrella doing the Benson Boogie in the middle of Canal st. WHO DAT!!!!!!!

I love this thread for the most part, good points made.
I love watching our defense play almost as much as our offense, they will continue to improve IMO.

If I'm correct the Saints defense hasn't allowed any team in the last 7 weeks to run over 100 yards, am I correct on this?

You are correct sir. They held the last 7 opponents to under 100 yards: 1) Tampa Bay 87, 2) Tennessee 98, 3) Carolina 88, 4) Seattle 92, 5) Atlanta 75, 6) San Francisco 83, 7) Jacksonville 88.

I still worry about our CB's. Other than that, I feel the same as LTF.

Euphoria 11-06-2007 11:31 AM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

I think teams realize to beat us they will have to score points on us. So the easy way to do that is attack out pass defense early (like at the start of the game). You put the pressure on our offense and take us out of the run game so we'd have to score a lot to keep up. What has changed since Deuce has been out is that we have had to come out and open up the offense from the get go. So matching the intensity from the start of the game is helping out bigtime. Holding the opponets rushing game to 100 yards is a bit misleading because they are more of a passing attack deployed against us. IF the teams come out running against us the stats would be very different.

I just don't think they are either planning to there potentcial or maybe they aren't as good as a lot of people like to think. They haven't been able to rush the passer and they give up to many big plays. Go by the dollar amout these goobers are making and ask yourself are we getting enough bang for our bucks??? I don't think so.

You've been talking about the big money these guys are getting. Whose getting paid relatively big bucks outside of Grant? Also, what did you see Grant not doing this year that he has done in previous years?

Budsdrinker 11-06-2007 11:58 AM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Well the only stat I'm really interested in is W's but for argument sake none of these 7 teams abandon the run against the Saints. Here they are in order beginning with Tampa.
Attempts Yards
32-87, 34-98, 28-88, 21-92, 24-75, 21-83 and 23-88. It would be one thing if they only attempted to run 10 times but this is a min. of 21 attempts. No matter how you slice it that's good Defense. Other than Brady, Manning and Thank God we have Bree's there isn't many QB's that can beat you when 1 dimentional.

WhoDat205 11-06-2007 12:00 PM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Rank_______Att.s_ Yds
1 Tennessee 153 528
2 Minnesota 199 563
3 Baltimore 212 593
4 Pittsburgh 157 608
5 Dallas 186 675
6 Philadelphia 204 743
7 Green Bay 202 750
8 Washington 200 760
9 New Orleans 212 775
10 NY Giants 193 808

This is the top ten rush Ds in terms of yards. Us and B'more have been run at the most with 212 attempts. I thought that was interesting.

I won't argue that teams will want to exploit the pass against the saints, but at least part of that is the rush D.

Smith is bringing in 500,000 call that what you want... but he's suppose to be slatted for a big raise but based on what??? I haven't seen Grant do anything more or less the past few years. I just don't see him living up to the over 2 million he's getting this year.

But I am not trying to call out players on the D line. I think they are playing to there potencial, meaning maybe we need to upgrade there and look the one making the bank and see if he isn't living up to 2 million a year worth of Defense.

papz 11-06-2007 12:13 PM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Agreed... both Grant and Smith have tapped out to their potential.

Next draft...

Draft 3 offensive lineman and 4 DL's. I think that might fix our problem. Actually it won't... we don't have that many high round draft picks. We should explore some trades this coming offseason. Maybe, just maybe, we can get a 3rd rounder for Smith and a 4th for Grant. I know it's still not high enough... but it's better than keeping these overpaid scrubs on our team.

Euphoria 11-06-2007 12:16 PM

Re: Who Thinks Our D-Line Suck Now?

Look guys you can pull up all the run defense stats ya want to but the fact of the matter is teams are beating us by going to the air. If they came out and ran against us and our run D was according to the stats I'd say good job but its not the case. Teams open up against us because we can't put pressure on the QB. You can get stats to say anything you want them to say.

You have to look at the BIG PICTURE. Saints D is ranked 21st how do the Saints go from 9th in rushing D to 21st overall ranked??? because teams scrap the run and pass on us and passing D we are HORRIBLE 27th ranked.

Stats are misleading unless you look at the big picture and study the games. We need an upgrade on the D line. We need someone on the line that needs to be doubled teamed to free up someone to penatrate and blitz.
