Re: Trufaunt not getting tagged?
Well, if you are talking about Asante Samuels, I might have to pass on him, after he got schooled in the Superbowl the way he did. Trufaunt? Possibly, but I am just gunshy with veteran corners now, after the whole Jason David debacle. I think that we should go the Cowher route, and just start building through the draft. Sign the players we have, that are worth it, (ahem, Will Smith), and get everything else outta the draft. Although, I guess every facet of attaining players is a gamble these days. Maybe we should go the NBA route, and look in Zimbabwe.

Re: Trufaunt not getting tagged?
The Saints need to go after both of these guys, and hope to land one of them. My preference would be Trufant, but either guy would be a nice addition. I do agree that the Saints need to build through the draft, but they also need some instant help.

Re: Trufaunt not getting tagged?
I found this hard to believe, tagging brown over trufant? anyway, i went to a seahawks board to see what i could find and someone was saying that they had heard trufant has agreed to a contract of some sort already, so that might explain it if its true. though they did say the source wasnt the most solid in the world. maybe its me, but i dont see them letting trufant just walk away.

Re: Trufaunt not getting tagged?
READ!!! ALL WE NEED IS A CB!!
Jason David hurt the saints Defense very bad this year as Fred Thomas did last year...If you look at our defense as on overall whole it is not that bad...but we have a horrible right cornerback in David who gives up big plays every game...the right cornerback is hurting our defense BAD...if we picked up an above average cornerback to go with Mckenzie our defense would be MUCH better as a whole....think of all the big plays David gave up. then think of all the close games we lost this year that were decided within a touchdown.....yea... I am pretty confident that the saints organization will finally make a move for a good DB... Asante Samuel and Marcus Trufant are both great CBs and if one can be landed at the saints it would make a HUGE impact on the defense.... we also have the 10th pick which is great. Mike Jenkins are Leodis Mckelvin will most probably be available when we have our 1st pick...either one will be great to bring in even though if we do pick up Trufant or Samuel....although i would like to see Keith Rivers added to the saints to give our LB crew some athleticism.... basically are options to improve our D is 1. Drafting a CB 2. Signing Samuel or Trufant. 3. doing 1 or 2 and picking up a LB in the draft. I think the saints will do one of these and next year our Defense will bend instead of breaking every game...and the offense will handle the rest. |

Re: Trufaunt not getting tagged?
Ok now we are talking. Remember the only reason Truffant is a FA is because of a cluase in his contract. The clause is based on playing time he did not get. The Seahawks were getting some other players on the field ahead of him. So the possibilty of him not getting tagged are very good.
Now he is not the CB you want out on an island all by himself. Granted he would be an upgrade at that position. But then again my three legged, blind dog could sniff out more INT than most of them. He is a good replacement for M&M. He is one of the best #2's in the game. As for the loner at #1 look for Young to get his shoot next year. Samual skip please. I am sold on this: he is a system guy. He makes breaks for the turn over because he has harrison behind him. Harrison has saved him way to many times. David should be the slot guy with LB and S help. but I would still draft a CB/FS type in the first day, even if we sign Truffant and Young works out. |

Re: Trufaunt not getting tagged?
Seattle just doesn't have the money to re-sign or tag Trufant. They have less than 8 mil in cap space and then there's the draft. Not to mention they need to find a quality guard. Trufant is going to the highest bidder and hopefully we'll make a strong push for him.

I agree that Young will get his shot as his skill set is conducive to being that lock down, "Ill take care of this side of the field" corner, but how fast can he step up to that responsibility?
