Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

I wouldn't say that I'm "worried" about this kid so much as I'm worried about grabbing a proven play maker for the front seven with our #10 (trading down is a whole other scenario).

Now that we've signed Gay, and MM's future is uncertain, we do need another CB to battle (like that will be hard) Jason David for the starting spot. My pick is Usama. (Oh, did we forget about him already??) This guy is working his tail off to get in the rotation and if there's any questions about the Saints always playing the right personnel last year... please see "Saints RB and Secondary Coaches Fired" and look under Pierre Thomas and Kevin Kaesviharn. Usama is gold. (not Obama)

Cro-Mart has the raw skills but teams know that his kind of player is a very high risk vs reward....because in the NFL "potential" is just that. He needs two years (min) to develop IMHO.

Would he look GREAT in the B&G and be an excellent replacement for MM in the future....YES.

We are not looking for a CB to hit a guy like a LB. Are we? We need a CB that can keep up with burners, that can out jump the WR, and has good hands.

DRC will bulk up when he gets picked up. Will he start? Maybe not. But I think he has the ability and skills to start.

Whoever gets him will have a future multi-pro-bowler. You can bank on that.

I'm a huge Usama Young fan. He is a great nickel type of cover corner.. he plays very well. and I'M NOT ONE TO want to draft any corners in the draft.. they typically take too long to develop.. most of them don't amount to anything in the NFL.. HOWEVER. this DRC guy is such a freak of nature.. i just think he is going to be every bit as good as his cousin if not better..

he has the best speed of any corner in the draft.. he has tremendous size.. he has the best leaping/vertical.. he very good man to man.. he'd be great for when we play teams like the Lions who have Calvin Johnson, Roy Williams, and Shaun McDonald..

and since they aren't letting Bush return kicks/punts any more.. he is special in the return game as well.. not to mention he blocked 8 kicks in college..

I'm fully prepared to be shocked on Draft Day with our selection at #10.

I'd much rather Mayo (in the 2nd round) over Rivers at the point unless Rivers has a blown up pro day..

It seems like unless you are a freak, ala Colston or Bush, you will have to wait a year before you play for this coach anyway.

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

DRC will probably take a year, maybe two, to develop. I have no problem waiting that amount of time if we can finally have a shutdown corner who gets us in the neighborhood of 10 picks a season.

Simply put, the majority of draft picks take time before the team sees what it really has in the guy. Of course there's always that strange story of a kid named Colston, but I doubt anyone here is interested in that.
