Talbid at FS is the pick this year followed by Reggie Smith in the second.
For pure CB look at DRC, Carlson, McKelvin then Jenkins in the first. King is my pet project in the third. So draft DRC in the first for CB Smith in the second for FS King in the third for depth at CB, WR and KR I know way to may picks for the secondary with all of the signings but it would solve the issues in the secondary. |

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Kiper's latest:
" The name you can expect to hear more leading up to the draft is Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Now that the Patriots have lost Asante Samuel to free agency, I have the Division I-AA cornerback going to New England with the seventh pick. If the Pats pass on Rodgers-Cromartie, the Saints could take him with the No. 10 pick. " |

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Saints needs going into 08':
1.Cornerback – The New Orleans Saints situation at corner is so bad that Kevin Kaesviharn, who should be starting at free safety, was starting at corner. Mike McKenzie is a starting caliber corner. Usama Young may have future potential, but Jason David appears to be a free agent disappointment. Jason Craft and Fred Thomas also have not performed well. 2.Middle Linebacker – The Saints also need a middle linebacker around whom they can build a defense. 3.Nose Tackle – A powerful run-stuffing huge defensive tackle who can collapse the pocket is needed to be groomed to replace Hollis Thomas, who is 33 years old. 4.Defensive Tackle – A quick powerful defensive tackle who can rush the passer and defend the run is needed to replace Brian Young who is 30 years old. 5.Cornerback – A second corner to play the dime is needed to go with Mike McKenzie, the other CB to be acquired, and Usama Young. 6.Return Specialist – A game-changing punt returner is needed. 7.Outside Linebacker – An outside linebacker to back up Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle. |

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
since we have addressed 2 and 5.. i think DRC will fill 1 and 6!. he has man coverage/ball skills and his special teams play is awesome.

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Why on earth should we draft an unproven CB in the draft, when we can sign one of the best in the NFL (D. Hall) for peanuts? Then, you can use that pick for one of our other glaring needs on defense. Don't get me wrong...I like Cromartie. I just don't like him at #10.

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
He is a freak and could be the future.. I understand he is unproven but he is by far the most talented defensive back in the draft and has such an upside its insane.. Really drafting any athlete is techinically a risk and unproven as to how they will do in the NFL.. I just am amazed by his speed, size, leaping abilities, strength and ball skills. Yeah he went to a small school, but only cuz he didn't play football until his senior year in high school.. He has been shut down all throughout college and he showed everyone he is just as good against the best by winning defensive mvp in the senior bowl and then blowing away every other defensive back in the draft in just about every single category..
He's such a talent.. He's like a randy moss of defensive backs.. 6'2! 2008 Combine Defensive Backs: Vertical Jump: 38.5 (1st) Broad Jump: 10'11" (1st) 3-Cone Drill: 6.74 time (1st) 50 Yard Shuttle: 11.06 time (1st) 40 Yard Dash: 4.28 (fastest) 4.33 (average) I still understand how pick 10 can seem high, but I personally wouldn't be suprised if the pats take him at pick 7.. |

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
I know Colston was drafted in the last round.. but the Saints have pretty good success with highly talented kids out of small schools.. I think Usama Young is going to be solid. He was the only pick I liked out of 07's draft. I also liked gettin Pierre, but he was undrafted..
If anything it seems like we are 50/50 with picking first rounders that are suppose to be NFL ready we draft seem to be bust.. and no i'm not talking about Bush because I look for a probowl 08 for him. |

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
I still believe Usama Young will come into his own. Hell....I believe he's better than Gay, David, & Craft right now. He'll be a solid #2. That said....we need a proven #1. If we draft Cromartie, I would not be upset. However....I would much rather get D. Hall & use the draft for the rest of our needs, like DT, FS, & a RB that can run between the tackles.

Re: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
I agree with that. I'd be happy with Rivers, a trade for a proven corner, or DRC.. I don't want any other corner *im not big on drafting db's* first round because it is a deep class.. I just like DRC over the others for his freakish talent and size..
i have a feeling its going to be a GREAT draft. regardless of pick ten.. i actually think we are going to get some contributing players in rounds 2-6 this year. |
