Re: What would you do? Mock Draft
I think you could trade down with the Cowboys as well. Word is that Jerry Jones likes Mindenhall as well. Then you have 3 picks in the late 1st and early 2nd. Aqib Talib (CB), Josh Barrett (FS), Tom Zbikowski (FS), Dajuan Wagner (FS), Dre Moore (DT) , & Trevor Laws (DT) should all be there at those spots. A couple may go earlier, but that still gives us contributors at each of our 3 biggest needs. Then we can pick up Ray Rice (RB) or Kevin Smith (RB) in the 3rd & actually have a RB who can run between the tackles other than Pierre Thomas. These two guys can also take it to the house after breaking tackles at the line of scrimmage.

Re: What would you do? Mock Draft
Well that's pretty much the worst scenario possible. If that happens, yes, you try to trade down if possible. If you can't do that, take whoever is the best CB on the board (probably Jenkins) or Clady. I wouldn't argue with either pick, but OT is probably the only offensive position that I wouldn't mind seeing.

Re: What would you do? Mock Draft
funny how these two have dropped of our map
Aqib Talib, Kansas, 6006, 202, 4.47, 10, 38 (CB/S tweener) At the combine on Tuesday, Talib cemented his status as a first-round pick by running a 4.47 40. Talib also had one of the best vertical jumps of the combine with a 38-inch jump, and he also was one of the top performers in the 3-cone drill (6.82 seconds) and the broad jump (10 feet, 11 inches). Talib could very well be the first cornerback taken, or he could be the fourth or fifth, given how many corners should in the first round. Measured shorter and ran slightly slower than expected at the NFL Combine. And Antoine Cason, Arizona, 5115, 182, 4.49, 20, 35.5 (CB/S tweener) Cason may go in the top 20. Cason had a good combine, a corner who thrives in the spotlight, ran a decent 40 but shocked the crowd with a vertical of 35.5, a broad jump of 10'8" and showing good strength while pressing 20 reps on the bench press, He's the type you hate to doubt due to those top-notch intangibles. These are the seasoned vets and proven play makers. Yes I see both being able to move into the FS spot. Remember last year Carlson was the #3 CB till he returned to school. These two are your non hyped choices and have proven themselves time and time again. I would not mind trading down and getting either one. Even taking Talbid at 10 seems high but I could live with it. Hands in the FS spot is key and both of these two have them. |

Re: What would you do? Mock Draft
The real key is not what you would do but what will the Saints do.
If Dallas isn't going to trade with us, other likely trading partners may be Carolina or Arizona. Both are looking hard at Mendenhall and most mock drafts have him going there. Assuming a trade is not possible, I think the Saints REPLACE DEUCE with Mendenhall. This may not be popular now but look at my avatar and the picture becomes clear. Loosing Duece and replacing him with Stecker makes Reggie Bush less effective. Putting Reggie Bush as your starting tailback is less effective. Pierre Thomas showed promise, but do you think Payton really wants to put his job on the line with him as your starting tailback? Remember, this is Payton's 3rd year and his butt is on the line. The honeymoon is over. True we can get a RB later in the draft, but the best player on the board that can HELP THE SAINTS WIN RIGHT AWAY will be in Payton's eyes, Mendenhall. And I can't find any fault with the coach's logic with that pick. I for one like having the best offense in the league! We can be the best on one side of the football and pretty good on the other. Keep signing Free Agents on defense. Draft 2 & 3 for defense and get us another star on offense. Sorry Duece. |
