this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Mel Kiper actually has Jerod Mayo ranked 13th overall and Keith Rivers 17th overall on his top 25 board. Is there any chance the Saints go with Mayo over Rivers if both top CB's and Ellis are off the board?...

Re: Is Mayo a possibility?
Mayo would be interesting... he's a first rounder no doubt. As far as 10, hmm... people will certainly second guess the pick that's for sure. But if he works out, it'll certainly quiet the critics. I like Mayo and if our staff felt as if he'd be the right pick for us, I have no problem with it. Get the highest rated player on their board... not the media's.
I remember the Pats selecting Logan Mankins that other year... people called him an absolute reach. I'm sure they can't say the same anymore. The same can be said when the Bills reached for Donte Whitner. |

Re: Is Mayo a possibility?
There is some things I like about this guy but at #10??? Over Rivers??? I think I would take Rivers over Mayo. Rivers is a legit talent and every bit in the top 20. Mayo, I think there is still some question marks and for him all of a sudden to be riding up the boards really make me want to question that. I think he has upside but I don't know if I want to draft for UPSIDE at 10.
Anything can happend though. |

Re: Is Mayo a possibility?
I want to see how fast Rivers is.
He doesn't really have any numbers out right now from the combine. He didn't really put up great numbers last season. He was surrounded by great players as well. I'm not saying he's bad or anything, but I want to see something that puts him over the top. And my opinion really doesn't matter, so maybe I shouldn't say things like, "I want to see." I just hope whoever we pick at #10 starts. |

Re: Is Mayo a possibility?
I'm definitely in the minority on Ginn being a reach... and I don't have a problem with that either. I saw him as the most explosive playmaker in that draft... he's still got a ways to go but it's still very early in his young career.
My point was I have no problem "reaching"... if a team likes a certain player a lot, get him and screw what the media thinks. It's not always going to work out but with any draft pick, nothing is guaranteed. |
