shockey to saints trade stalls.. Update on Pg 11

Don’t completely dismiss the Giants-Saints trade rumors involving Giants TE Jeremy Shockey. Although the trade as discussed — Shockey to New Orleans for SS Roman Harper and the 40th pick — probably won’t happen, we’re told that there was dialogue on that subject.

source.............NFL pro football and NCAA college football coverage from Pro Football Weekly

and if it's by pfw you can gul dern think what you want.................

As great as he is or CAN be, he is such the cancer as well. I sure hope Payton knows what he is doing because if this guy thinks he can do what he did in NY not working out ect with the team... come on.

He had to get hurt in order for the team to rally and win the SB, lol.

Our #1 for #32 thats 710 points from the chart
#40 is worth 500 points. That should equal Shockey and the quality of player we are loosing.
That leaves 210 points.
Pick #95 = 120 pts
Add a third in 2009 and it is a done deal.

Re: shockey to saints?

No I don't have links to confirm & nor do I really care if he goes to the saints or not I just wanted to share my story.

I was passing thru DFW "Dallas Fort Worth International" yesterday on business. Having a few beers & getting ready to order some food when this huge person walks in & sets down next to me. I glanced over & immediately knew it was shockey from the tat's.

He ordered a double margarita & two shots of petron & asked where the owner of the place was "apperently a friend of his that he was going to sign autographs for". The owner wasn't around so he had his drinks & asked to borrow one of the waitresses cell phone "said he lost his in the bahamas where he was flying from".

He called Drew Rosenhaus & started discussing something pretty heatedly & then told him to get it done or he would find someone that could. Somebody asked him if he was going back to NYG, Shockey smiled and lauged & said he was going to be traded. Either to the saints, raiders, tampa bay, or denver.

He started out real friendly signing some autgraphs for kids & then he turned into what I expected, a jerk. He was cussing profusely "mind you this wasn't just a bar it was a restaurant that had a bar in the middle.

Right before I left I asked him who was the hardest hitter in the NFL & he said "Sean Taylor, the best football player ever" quote.

I told him I was a Cowboys fan & he started dogging on Roy HARD. Saying he was out of shape & fat.

Anyways I got on the plane to Oklahoma City & noticed he was on the plane too. As I passed him I asked him if he was going to be a Saint & he put his finger up to his lips like shhhhhh.

I don't know why he would be spouting off in an airport about a trade but I though it was interesting none the less. First pro athlete I had ever met & he was about like I figured, full of himself & very cocky....ahhh the life of a pro athlete.

Ok this is just he said she said stuff but that what we are all about.

Hagan, thats a great story to read. I hope we dont get that bum. YES HE IS A GOOD PLAYER, but thats it. Do we bring in a problem child ?? I dont know, plus i dont want us to use any more of or picks unless we move up for Ellis.

Great player when healthy but lately he's been hurt more often than not..
and besides that he's a cancer to his team, we don't need him..

Re: shockey to saints?

I think the current Saints TEs will get the job done just fine. None of the Saints TEs are particularly great, but all have great attitudes and come to work each day. There is no need to get Shockey. Yes, he does play great at times, and I even kind of like that cockiness. However I seen what a pain in the a$$ he was for the Giants and feel the Saints should not risk it. I honestly do not feel like he would make the Saints offense any better, and he does drop a lot of passes.

Re: shockey to saints?

i think the scariest part is now we are looking to give away one of the few decent spots of our defense for offense.....in addition to draft picks.

for those of you who think that its a sure thing that we pick defense at 10, this may open some eyes.

This rumor certainly has legs .IMHO we give up 2nd only and for that IMHO thats agood deal for us

The problem with that is our 2009 3rd maybe headed to the jets in the Vilma trade depending on how many games he plays in.

Reggie Bush was also at WM24 and was hanging around Snoop Dogg’s trailer most of the afternoon on Sunday. My sources tell me that the New York Giants are going to trade outstanding TE Jeremy Shockey to Bush’s Saints, prior to the NFL draft. Shockey is an Oklahoma kid from Ada who told me last week he was looking forward to playing for the Saints. If any NFL player was tailor made for the WWE, it is JeremyShockey and the Chicago Bears’ Dusty Dvoracek.

Nope that is a 3rd from NYG

Food for thought:

Payton was the offensive coordinator for the Giants, during Shockey's rookie year. He likely had a big say in drafting the guy. More importantly, Shockey had his best year ever with Payton at the helm. 74 Rec. 894 Yds. (only 2 TDS), but still, maybe Payton knows how to handle him and how to get him the ball.......

Somebody do me a favor and list the reasons as to why Shockey has been labeled a "team cancer." I should have no problems getting an answer to this, seeing as their are many who are throwing this designation around.

Honestly, I don't know, which is why I'm asking. Did he shoot up a club? Smack his girlfriend around? Did he make it rain? Has he publically berated his head coach? Has he held out for an extended period of time, demanding more money? Chastised his fellow teammates? I want to make sure I didn't miss something....

First off, LIFETIME Saints fan........Have been on the website now for awhile, enjoy reading all the posts...

I think this would be a great pick up for the Saints, Brees had alot of success with Gates in SD. I think he could do the same with Shockey. Brees is the type of guy, I think that could keep his head on straight. And like kidbra said, Payton might be a guy to keep him straight.....I personally would like to see this happen, will it? Prob not!

dave.. id love to see it too.. if we got shockey it would take alot of pressure of of colston and give us a force over the middle of the field and also keep the LBs from spying on reggie out of the backfield...

Imagine....

WR Coltson and Meachum....
TE Shockey
FL Bush
RB Mendenhall
QB Brees

We're set for years. I'm chomping at the bit too, Wilber.

pak, without a running game (loss of Duece) there was little to worry about with the Saints running game, therefore, Bush out of the backfield is one the opposition could count on because he could NOT run between the tackles. The use of TE Miller, Johnson, and Campbell (when healthy) really did not matter as most of the early part of the season Brees was hurrying his throws due to lack of OL protection (i.e. Brown injury).

I agree Shockey is a good TE, but if the same situation occurs in 2008...I don't see the big change.

I say draft a TE through the draft. Enough of the walking wounded!!!! How many can the Saints afford (Vilma, Morgan, MM, Duece, Bush, Grant, Glenn, Meachem, etc.)?

He did berate his head coach after the Seattle/Giants game in 2006 when he said, "We got out-played and out-coached. Write that down."

I don't recall anyone calling Shockey a cancer. He does have a big mouth and says some stupid things sometimes and is very volatile.
Me personally, I think that the Saints are fine at TE.
Mark Campbell will be back so the run game should improve.
Billy Miller is a good blocking TE also and made some good receptions last year.
Eric Johnson is a good receiving TE though he didn't play exceptionally well last year I think that he'll do fine this year.
I have no idea what Buck Ortega and Ronnie Ghent are like as players but I'm okay with the current TE's on the team.

I took this from the first page of this thread... but this is not the first time I've read such comments.

I cannot think of any reason why this wouldn't be a great deal for the Saints. With Brees at the helm, and believe me, this is his ship, you won't have a QB that's pushed around like you did in New York. It would be nice to have a legitimate receiving threat at the TE position, Eric Johnson was ok, didn't have a great year as I had hoped, and there weren't any other teams beating down his door this offseason. And a little attitude outside of Will Smith wouldn't hurt either.
If this was Strahan in his prime, instead of Shockey, not a one of you would strong arm this trade. Yet he's pulled similar stunts, so why is he exempt?

Re: shockey to saints?

Shockey gets a bad rep because he opens his yap, and he ain't got no yap filter.

iceshack149 04-09-2008 10:00 PM

Re: shockey to saints?

Whoa now. Strahan is one of the best DE's to play the game. Shockey is just a good TE. In fact, I think that Strahan is still better at DE than Shockey is at TE right now.

I know what you're getting at but Strahan was never as obnoxious (emphasis on noxious) as Shockey is.

Re: shockey to saints?

Shockey wants the ball. All the players do. But when he was not getting it he would sulk and yell. It maybe NY or it maybe him. That for the FO to figure out. If they make the move then the saints a scary. Well if he can avoid the injury bug.

Saint_LB 04-10-2008 07:31 AM

Re: shockey to saints?

All I can say is be careful what you wish for? Brees may be able to get into his face...but he will have no way of retrieving the ball that he just let go towards the sideline as Shockey cuts toward the post.

I'm not sure where I saw this, so I could be wrong, but I believe that Shockey can count up to his wonderlic score without taking his shoes off.

Speaking of shoes...with a wonderlic score like his, he may be losing a lot of money on Bourbon St. until he catches on and says, "On my feet."

LOL that is so new Orleans. I use it all the time up here with the new englanders and get away with it. LOL

As for Shockey I think Sean is the guy to keep him in line. They have a history. I think he would thrive in our offense and be happy.

SHOCKEY TO SAINTS STILL SIMMERING?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 10, 2008, 9:02 a.m.
Last month, there were rumors and reports of discussions between the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants regarding a possible trade that would send tight end Jeremy Shockey from Broadway to the Bayou.

As we’d last heard it, the Giants wanted a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper, and the Saints declined.

But now renewed talk of a possible trade is emerging, from an unlikely source. Several readers have pointed out to us that WWE announcer Jim Ross has posted the following entry on his blog: “Reggie Bush was also at [WrestleMania] 24 and was hanging around Snoop Dogg’s trailer most of the afternoon on Sunday. My sources tell me that the New York Giants are going to trade outstanding TE Jeremy Shockey to Bush’s Saints, prior to the NFL draft. Shockey is an Oklahoma kid from Ada who told me last week he was looking forward to playing for the Saints.”

Shockey has been the subject of extensive speculation, given that he played no role in the team’s stunning postseason run. Some believe that Eli Manning never would have become a championship-caliber quarterback is Shockey had not been injured..

being that the trades for pretty prominent players have been going for 2nd round picks.. my best guess is that they would give up that much but it wouldnt surprise me at all if they only offered a 3rd round pick in the hopes that the Gmen asked for a 2nd instead but ended up asking for the 2nd and Harper.. and the saints saw that as too much...

i could see the deal going down like this:

saints get shockey and the Gmens 3rd round pick (95 overall)

gmen get saints 2nd round pick (40 overall) and 3rd round pick (78 overall)

giants get a high 2nd and get to move up in the 3rd and remove what they deem to be a cancer to Eli Mannings ability to QB

I said this idea a few weeks ago...but it went unnoticed...Maybe there's mileage in it afterall. There's probably someone on here with a draft-value chart that would contradict it, but I can still see it happen.

If the Saints can swing a pre-draft trade for Shockey, switching our 1st round pick with theirs. Then turn around and get Haynesworth for the 31st overall pick, then they will have 2 immediate difference makers, that they can sign now, and it only cost them their 1st round pick.

We'd still have the #40 overall pick to go after a LB or RB (depending on Mcallisters physical) Just think about it...

pakowitz 04-10-2008 12:10 PM

Re: shockey to saints? updated on pg 3

just another tidbit.. shockeys contract is really cap friendly..

2008 - $2.225 million
2009 - $3.25 million
2010 - $3.825 million
2011 - $4.508 million

*Beginning in 2006, there is a clause in the contract that can reduce the base contract by up to $300,000 a year if certain performance levels are not met.

thats not bad at all for a probowl caliber TE

from JeremyShockey.info - Jeremy Shockey's New Contract

another thing to note, since being drafted in 2002, he has been voted to the probowl 4 times, in 6 seasons, averaging 62 catches per year for his career.. and considering everyone says he is always injured... he has only missed 3 or more games in a single season once in his career (2003) he missed 2 reg season games and the playoffs this season b/c of a broken leg

i dont think the titans would trade haynesworth for that.. considering he is young and one of the best DTs in the league which is one of the hardest positions to find really good players at

It's a little funny when people say Shockey is a cancer, but Hanyesworth has been arrested four times since he went to the Titans....and oh lets not forget that you tried to step on a man's *without his helmet on* while on the field two years ago.

Don't want it to affect our draft too much? What does that mean? The draft is a tool for helping the franchise, and adding a Pro Bowl playmaker helps the franchise. I'd say completely forfeit all of our picks if we can get proven guys like Shockey or Lito Sheppard.
