Look at the finances of it though. Will Smith is probably demanding top DE salary. Getting Dorsey means he will be THE top salary DT in the league.
So, we would have
the top payed DT and two of the highest payed DE's in the game.
And we have to somehow pay Colston and Evans sometime.

I think Smith's value could be used in this trade, heck, throw in Henderson too.

What is the cap this year? I remember reading somewhere that it will reach $150 million in the final (capped) year of the CBA.

Personally I don't care about the money. Benson isn't hurting for cash and neither is our CAP. What I do wonder is if Dorsey gets us to the Superbowl. Is it better to add two above average starter to our D or one great one? It's a tough question to answer right now. I love Dorsey so much though and think he would keep blockers off of Vilma. Can you imagine Dorsey and Hollis on Goal Line Defense? Good God!!!!

There is no certainty that we'll end up with 2 above average players. One sure with the 10th pick outside that its a gamble in this years draft. What we are lacking is a great dominate pass rusher. Create a pass rush and our secondary will improve - there is no doubt about that. Above average will only get us to the play offs thats where above average teams go... but special players - dominate players, they go to the SB.

i would rather have rivers with the #10 and DT Laws in round 2 than just get dorsey...

partially because i dont see dorsey of being that much better than rivers...especially not enough to lose out on a starting DT in the 2nd round

RUMORS: Saints Trading Up??

Saints explore trading up in the draft
By Adam Schefter | NFL Network

Bill Parcells and the Miami Dolphins have been unable to find a trading partner for the No. 1 pick. But the St. Louis Rams now have options at No. 2.

Around the Web

The Saints have made inquiries with the Rams about what it would take to go from New Orleans' scheduled 10th overall pick all the way up to St. Louis' at No. 2.

Based on the antiquated NFL draft point chart, the Rams pick at No. 2 is worth 2,600 points. The Saints pick at No. 10 is worth 1,300, and their second round pick is worth another 490, meaning New Orleans is going to have to come up with more than its two first-day picks.

New Orleans is looking at add a stud defensive player, and it could opt for LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, a pick that would be enormously popular in that area, or even Ohio State linebacker Vernon Gholston, who would be a terror on the turf in the Superdome.

People who have spoken with the Saints insist the talks are not substantiative, more informal, but the fact that one team has pursued moving up is noteworthy. This year, no team has been willing to move up to Miami's spot at No. 1, even New Orleans. The Saints are unwilling to pay what it would take to satisify the Dolphins or the player picked at No. 1.

In previous years, teams have declined to move into the top 10 picks. The last time there was any type of blockbuster trade was 2004, when the Chargers and Giants were involved in a trade that featured quarterbacks Philip Rivers and Eli Manning.

As interested as the Saints might be in moving up, the Rams are in no rush to relinquish their pick. They recognize that they're going to come away with help for one of their lines -– either Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long or Dorsey.

In an upset, the Rams could always opt for the top-rated player on their board -– running back Darren McFadden. But it's up to the Saints -– or any other team that's interested –- to entice the Rams with an offer that is good enough to get them to surrender the No. 2 overall pick.

I'm all for us getting Dorsey, but that is WAY to much to give up. Plus we would carry the burdon of the HUGE salary we would have to pay him as a #2 pick. My perfect first round would consist of us dropping back to #19 with the Eagles and getting Lito. Then with the 19th pick I'd take either Jerod Mayo or Dan Conner. We def need an established CB and we could take one in the first round next year and let him develop a little bit before we threw him to the wolves.

Re: Saints Trying To Move Up To #2!!!

almost all the mock drafts i have seen have the following DTs available at pick #40 and beyond: (all of which, combined with rivers or a top cb, would be much greater value for the saints than just getting dorsey)

4. Trevor Laws Notre Dame 6-03/4 304 5.06
5. Marcus Harrison Arkansas 6-23/4 317 4.98
6. Dre Moore Maryland 6-4 305 4.86
7. Pat Sims Auburn 6-21/8 310 5.11
8. Red Bryant Texas A&M 6-41/8 318 5.04

there are scouting reports for these guys at NFL Draft Countdown - Defensive Tackle Rankings
