Re: Saints Trying To Move Up To #2!!!

I think Dorsey has to be the play if thats all is being asked for in the trade. Again, upgrading through the draft is not about the quantity of picks you have but the quality of players you get. Personally, unless you are in rebuilding mode, I am not an advocate of trading down. There is no guarantee that you get two starters with your first and second round pick. If you feel that Dorsey or Ellis or whomever upgrades your defense and helps persaviely at all levels of the defense then that has to be the pick. Dorsey instantly upgrades your line for the obvious reasons. As has been stated, he upgrades your LB core by keeping blockers out of getting to the second level (there is almost always a DT capable of doing this in front of the better LBs in the league), and the pass rush that is generated combined with limiting what was 4 yard runs last year to 1 and 2 yard runs instantly upgrades your secondary. The pressure means covering longer as Euph has said and by being able to more effectively stuff the run, you force offenses into 3rd and longs. I say there are about 5 surefire impact players in this draft and if you can give up a reasonable caliber of picks to get one of those players, then you make the trade. IMO behind Ellis and Dorsey, there is a bigger dropoff than at any other defensive position of need in the draft. If it works, I say you would be crazy not to pull the trigger on the deal.

Re: Saints Trying To Move Up To #2!!!

It's going to be Grant who is traded if anyone. I said a while back in a reply to a thread on here about Grant and Smith being worth all the money. I said Grant will be with another team real soon....also posted a thread on here that said it looks more and more like a d tackle first pick....not saying i told you so but we will see soon.I still believe Grant will be gone soon.

Re: Saints Trying To Move Up To #2!!!

I think the single most - biggest impact where you will see improvement on that D is getting a player like Dorsey. There are no sure bets that Laws will be available with our second pick in the draft. Heck we can't be sure Rivers will be there at 10 either at this point. Thats 2 gambles... I'll go up and get Dorsey at 2. I think the Saints know this and if Dorsey is the guy to target then you have to get him at 2 because that is perhaps the first 'real' chance he could go in the draft.
While I think Rivers is a good pick at 10 for us and Laws may end up being good in the NFL. You can't go on just the numbers alone. I don't see them improving our D as much as Dorsey can. Don't go by just the numbers of all these players, look at the decision making of these players. Dorsey choosing go to LSU - a National Championship team playing in the best NCAA confrence. He decides to play another year to win a National Championship (again). The odds of that happening and in the SEC is crazy... the fact he made a decision like that and performed and lived up to his expectations says a lot about the guy. Dorsey is a gamer played in the biggest games and some say he single handedly won a lot of those big games.

-Sorry I want a winner!
GO GET DORSEY.

Re: RUMORS: Saints Trading Up??

yes, but with the new draft chart they are talking about, all it would take is the first and second, in the saints favor......read on..........

SAINTS LOOKING TO TRADE UP WITH RAMS?
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 16, 2008, 7:24 p.m.
The conventional wisdom around the NFL is that no team wants to trade into the first few picks in the draft because of the exorbitant salaries and signing bonuses that top picks receive. But one team might be looking to buck that conventional wisdom.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Saints have made informal inquiries about what it would take to acquire the Rams’ first-round pick, No. 2 overall.

The Saints currently own the 10th overall pick, and under the draft trade chart that has been used for the last two decades, the Saints would have to give up a bounty of draft picks to move from No. 10 to No. 2. But some teams are circulating a new trade chart, and on that chart, a trade of the Saints’ first- and second-round picks for the Rams’ first-round pick would appear reasonable, if possibly a little too favorable to the Saints.

If the Saints did make the trade, what would they do with the No. 2 pick? Schefter reports that New Orleans wants one of the draft’s top defensive players, likely LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey or Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston.

If the trade doesn’t go through, the Rams could take Dorsey, Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long or possibly pull a surprise and select Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.

Re: RUMORS: Saints Trading Up??

if in fact the saints are looking at dorsey,
atlanta could still leapfrog them if dorsey is who they are targeting...

04/16...Draft Shake-up?...NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the New Orleans Saints have contacted the St. Louis Rams about a potential trade up into the top five of the NFL Draft...if the Saints make the move, it would be to fill their need at defensive tackle...the Saints would likely take LSU DT Glenn Dorsey.

i'll play your game...lets say rivers is not there at #10...we will still get one of the top CBs or we can try to move down...if laws is not available in round 2 there will still be 2-3 DTs that will be able to come in and start or fill in the rotation.

so, since dorsey was lucky enough to choose the right school to play for, he is a better player? i could give you a huge list of guys from winning college programs that were crap in the nfl...even guys who were the main reason their teams won national championships.

again...your argument just doesn't hold water.
