3-4...wtf?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; It's the changing back and forth is what is working 34/43. Confuse the offense every chance you get. I think Gregg Williams is going to have a field day against Sanchez this week. Really make him lok like a rookie ...

Re: 3-4...wtf?

im not a fan of the 3-4 but it is supposed to be a superior pass defense to the 4-3s superior run defense

i guess gregg figured that we could stop the run with the our down men and our extra LB could help in pass coverage

ive noticed the 3-4 in the past 2 games also but nobody else seemed to notice.....this one was just so blatent because we played it the majority of the game

Pardon the questions, but the limited time I got to see the choppy feed prevented any satisfaction for the weekend. Sadness is permeating my home...
It was a real 3-4. They brought Mitchell in as the other MLB and used Shanle, Fuji and McCray as the OLBs.

And on the Vilma doesn't like the 3-4, I'm betting Vilma doesn't give a poop what we run as long as we get the W. He played a pretty darn good game. 5 tackles, 4 solo, 2 QB hits.

I was surprised that we didn't fall into the prevent D at the end of the game

I rather liked seeing that

Re: 3-4...wtf?

I think Vilma didn't like the 3-4 he was in when he played with the Jets because it wasn't well coached nor well called during games, which wasted Vilma's natural talents and made him disappear from games...

...but this 3-4 Williams is fielding doesn't mean the Saints defense is a 3-4 defense an that's all they do, rather it is a package among many different packages GW is implementing slowly with every game, and this package is called when GW thinks it is appropriate for what he sees the offense is doing.

We are looking at defensive schemes we have never seen in a Saints defense: a lot of movement, lots of rotations, lots of different looks.

Re: 3-4...wtf?

Payton has put the defense in what seems to be GOOD HANDS. Greg Williams has, til now, shown that he has the where-with-all to position people to make plays, and that's what we needed. Each week they look a little better in different areas. My hope is that it all comes together as the season progresses and they are playing their best down the stretch and into the post season. Each week brings new challenges that may call for altered schemes and personnel. I hope they keep getting it done...on both sides of the ball.
