Re: 8-0 for the first time!
Thoughts on the recent games:
1. The run defense has actually been pretty decent against 4 of the top rushing teams in the NFL. There have been plenty of missed tackles, but those running backs are known for being hard to tackle. It happens. I think the Saints' run D is still top ten. Don't forget Carolina put up 270 yards against the league's top rushing defense at the time (AZ). 2. The pass protection for Brees has been horrible early in the last few games. It gets better as the game goes on. I don't know if it's Brees himself or the line at fault for the slow starts, but it's nice that they have been able to recover before halftime each week. 3. Reggie Bush played the way we want him to play, especially against Carolina. He ran forward instead of dancing, he hit some people, he caught every ball thrown to him (including some spectacular grabs). The only thing he didn't do was break a big play, but those will come if he keeps earning his touches like he did Sunday. 4. How about Meachem and Henderson developing into complete receivers? I think a lot of us had our doubts but they are both for real. 5. No long kickoff or punt returns given up against Carolina! Nice to see. |

Re: 8-0 for the first time!
I'm not gonna badmouth the play at all. I praise it. We played a hard fought emotional game on MNF agains t the Falcons, won it, had a short week and played the Panthers...ALWAYS a tough game. Perfect recipe for a letdown game...a recipe we would have cooked and eaten in the past. But we won.
Every team out there is gunning for us. We're getting everybodies best game and most intricate gameplans. We have been figuring them out in the first half... making adjustments at half time...and winning in the second half. How can anyone have a problem with that?!?!? Saints fans are so accustomed to *****ing about the team when we lose...quit looking for reasons to ***** when we win. |

The saint's are circled on every teams calender now. Every team from here on out will bring there "A" game against us, Get use to it.
Food teams find a way to win games like this and that is just a simple truth we are faced with. Take the win and get ready for the Rams PS we need to add some beef to this DL. |

Great post...and you are definitely not wrong. I think Tom Brady, for example, carries a rabbit foot. They made it to the SB one year after a fumble was called an incomplete pass, and on another occasion in a different year, he threw a pass on a critical 4th down play that was intercepted only to have the returner fumble it to give the Pats a fresh set of downs to clear the way for yet another lucky win and playoff appearance.

Re: 8-0 for the first time!
No matter how much everyone appreciates coming out the other end of a game with a "W", it's crazy talk to not recognize that our play has been ugly and undisciplined. I may be "spoiled" but the regular season is just about getting into the playoffs to me. The only game that matter in the regular season relate directly to that proposition.
Each individual playoff game matters, and you don't win many playing the way we've been playing. We have to get our play cleaned up. We can win it all if we play disciplined football. We're not doing right now, and really haven't been for a good while - it all started in Buffalo. Considering what we're capable of, we should be winning with a comfortable margin and in control of the game throughout. Instead we're scrabbling, scratching and clawing down to the last second. I'm happy about being 8-0. That doesn't mean I can't see what's right in front of me. |

Re: 8-0 for the first time!
There is no such thing as a Saints ugly win! They are all a thing of beauty to me. One thing to keep in mind is that this is the first year for the defense under Gregg Williams. It's going to take a while for the players to adapt to his schemes compared to what they were doing under Gibbs. The thing that needs to be drilled into their heads is the first person to reach the ball carrier needs to wrap him up and let the second person go for the strip. I like the fact that we try to strip the ball all the time but someone has to wrap him up first.
