i could get paid a ton but at the end of the day i want to be the best and win, not paid the best and lose. maybe my rose colored glasses are on, but whatever...we're living in the 21st century...money rules.

Re: Sharper "Not feeling the love" from Saints

[QUOTE=OldMaid;212938]Confused here??????
Why so hard on Sharper? Just asking, just asking. The tone of this thread is rather odd.
Yeah, the guy is 34 and just came off a SB winning team.
He wants to use that leverage and the work of his last year to get the biggest pay day he can.
The Saints cannot give him a pay he wants and will not do so and that is fine.
Soooooo, Sharper's (agents) will shop him around out there for the biggest pay day he can get.
So what if he ends up at Buffalo, Detroit or worst?
He'll play for big pay a year and call it a career over. Afterbeing part of a SB winning team, there is really no place to go but to the bank.
Another SB win or try for any team is very hard to do.
Fujita is in Cleveland.
Hey, the same thing Sharper is doing, Fujita did and we all wished him well etc.
Why not the same thing for Sharper?
This is the NFL ( Not For Long).
All of this loyalty talk and talk on how Sharper should look for the less pay day he can get is really silly.
Would you if you were Sharper ? No.
Would you if you were Fujita? No.

In my opinion, I don't care if he goes or not. He's pissing me off with the "their not showing the love" comments. I'll show him the love, a good kick in his ass. I like Sharper, but he's not handling this the right way. Keep your mouth shut and let your agent and the front office work out the deal. Fujita didn't say **** till he had signed with the Browns and his deal was done. More class, more respect!

Re: Sharper "Not feeling the love" from Saints

I did say in another post here that my only problem is keep quiet and let agents do the behind the scenes thing. I said this about Sharper here and I said in somewhere in a post ,something about Eli Manning when he showed no class in being drafted by SD.

In other words, yeah, I agree with you on that.

Re: Sharper "Not feeling the love" from Saints

I am at a loss on this. In fact, at this point, I hope he does go somewhere else, and suceeds beyond the 09 season. Then maybe you "younguns", will stop putting so much emphasis on a person's age, and recognize their ability instead. There were actually people in here sticking up for Charles Grant for God's sake! That tub o lard, hasn't lived up to ANY of the money we gave him. Which was far more than 5 million dollars. He was even quoted as saying he wanted to go to Atlanta, just to stick it to us twice a year, and STILL some of you said you "would rather have him back, than some of these other guys mentioned." You scream, it's a business out of one side of your mouth, and then start preaching player loyalty out of the other. Out of curiosity, why is ok for team management, to cut someone loose, when they want to get paid, more than what they are willing to give, but it's completely arrogant for a player, to go play for someone else, if they ARE willing to pay them the money? You can't have your cake and eat it too folks.

Just remember, all you guys saying over and over again, how we did him a favor, when no one else wanted him, that the team we beat to get that Superbowl, was the exact team, that let him go in the first place. This time next year, if we are talking about how Sharper had a great year with the Cowboys, which is a rumor I heard today, that he is in talks with them, then I want someone to go find all of these threads, so we can all see who was wrong, and who was right.

I'm all for a team concept, with the Saints, but how much of a team is there, when guys who bust their ass for us, get accused of being a "system player", or "not worth the money", when it comes down to keeping the TEAM together? Him wanting the money he thinks he's worth, is exactly the same, as management not being willing to pay it. I see no difference what-so-ever.

And refresh my memory one more time, there still isn't a cap next season right? I have heard a few of you exclaim many times, "It's not my money, why do I care?" EXACTLY.

What's popular is not always right, and what's right is not always popular.....

Re: Sharper "Not feeling the love" from Saints

I agree with with many of your points there, saintpaul.
The SB is being dismantled.
Unfortunately for Saints org, some key players are at or around 30 or older, UFA, FA,and the Saints have only so much money.
I wish the whole SB team would be there for 2010 with areas in need filled by 2nd string or 1st string players the coaching staff can mold. It just cannot be.
I cannot fault Fujiata,Sharper and anyone else going for the biggest payday they can get.

Re: Sharper "Not feeling the love" from Saints

I think we will resign Sharper but at $3 million a year not $6.5 million. Maybe throw in a few incentives. If another team pays more than that, I won't hold anything against the Saints for letting him walk or Sharper for taking the money. He knows the loyalty of the fans in N.O. but loyalty wont buy him crap. Same thing with Fujita, his was the first jersey I bought in 2006, had to customize it on nflshop because he wasn't popular yet. I hold no hard feelings towards him for taking the money Cleveland offered and hold nothing against the Saints for not matching. He is on the down side of his carrer now and the same with Sharper. It may not be a capped year this year but the cap will be back in 2011 and then you could find yourself in real trouble if you are overpaying this year.

No one is going to put a term down either verbally or (heaven forbid) paper until that GM sees Sharper work out after his knee. He played hurt (which was good/bad) and he missed a few games because of the newly surgically repaired knee.

All his talk is a smokescreen. If he were healthy, he'd have been signed already.

I also want to point out, that people questioned his lack of play making, when Greer, and Porter were out. Now can anyone recall, when he first hurt his knee? It was around the TB game, at Tampa if I remember correctly. Now, if it was hurt that bad, where he needed offseason surgery, then can't we give him a little props, for sticking it out, when we needed him? Not to mention, that knee, could possibly be the reason why he didn't produce as much as he did in the first half of the season? Possibly?
