There are certain God-given talents that allow a person to advance to the NFL. It is my contention that anybody who has made it to that level has enough talent to beat one guy...whether he jukes him or runs over him.

I also contend that when people like RB, MC, JS, RM, LM, and DH are on the field, it usually equates to a RB having less obstacles to overcome when he does get to touch the ball.

Why am I saying all this? Because I believe that anyone with NFL caliber talent has a shot at succeeding in this offense...so, IMO, Bell is someone who can easily be replaced in the draft by someone like, say...Dexter McCluster.

I think Loomis could very well match the Eagles offer. Here's why.

Rumor is that the contract is $1.7 million, only $500,000 guaranteed. If Loomis matches, he can then offer Bell to the Eagles for trade, for a low round draft choice. If the Eagles balk, Benson is only on the hook for the $500,000, not much in an uncapped year. They could still cut Bell if they wanted to, or elect to keep him, either way.

It looks to me like a win-win situation for the Saints.

excellent points--

and remember this about Bell:
-he led us in rushing attempts last year
-had 5 TD's compared to PT's 6 (Reggie also had 5)
-had a slightly higher average than Hamilton

It is a win-win for the Saints, we've pretty much put ourselves in the upper hand in negotiations this season and we're in the perfect scenario with the uncapped season, this is a situation most superbowl teams would love to be in right now..

lets not forget that the kid carried us through the first part of the season and was a consistant short yardage back until late in the year

AMEN!

I will be sad to see Bell go. I hope he stays, but if that doesn't happen, I wish him the best of luck in Philly.

The Eagles placed a no-trade clause in Mike Bell's offer sheet, which is expected to keep the Saints from matching.

The no-trade clause precludes the Saints from matching and then shopping Bell back to the Eagles or around the league. New Orleans is also expected to balk at the $500,000 guaranteed in Philly's offer sheet. He'll be an Eagle by next Wednesday, the 24th.

..that would maybe work if the Eagles were sold on Mike Bell, but a 1-year, 1.7 mil contract with only $500,000 guaranteed for a 26 year-old RB doesn't exactly spell "we most have him!".. heck it doesn't even guarantee Bell will not be cut by the Eagles before the season starts.
