hargrove couldnt start on our team that had a lot of holes on the defensive line

all 3 of those guys are going to start next season for whichever team drafts them

hargrove is good for us....but he is a backup and has a very little chance of making the pro bowl in the same conference as guys like pat and kevin williams, albert haynesworth, ryan pickett, etc etc etc

hargrove doesnt stand a chance....he isnt even the best DT on our team let alone a pro bowler at DT

now the other 3 guys might not make the pro bowl.....but they will be available in the early 2nd round probably and they will all start day 1 and they will all contribute heavily

Lions are licking their chops.
They aren't accustomed to having an actual football player.

The list of ways they could use him are fairly infinite considering how badly the Lions suck.

The Lions haven't offered anything to Hargrove yet, KB. They've just had him in for a look.

I will halfway agree with you here, but only because Hargrove is a natural DE. He was used at DT, because the position was decimated with injuries with Clancy gone for the year and Ellis missing several games. Not many players can be expected to be a Pro Bowl player switching DE to DT. Plus, he is undersized for the position. He's listed at 272 lbs. That's very small for a DT. The guy played with a great motor regardless of what he lacked size-wise. Put him out on the edge like he should be, and this guy could be very, very good.

and even with all the injuries who were our starting DTs?

ayodele and ellis

hargrove was a menace in the middle because guards and centers werent used to blocking guys that were faster than them coming out of a 3 or 4 point stance

guards and centers usually have the benefit of being faster and can usually out maneuver the DTs even if they cant out muscle them

idk if hargrove can play full time at DE because idk if hes fast enough

but he is faster than most DTs and his motor seems to run nonstop

im excited about this guy for depth but i cant see him starting more than a handful of games

Ummm....Apparently you didn't fully read what I typed, but Ellis was out for a number of games, as well. Hargrove started those games.

Agreed, but there were times when he was bullied on run plays due to his lack of size. That's why he should probably only be used as a DT on passing downs.

From what I saw from the guy last year, he's a lot faster than Charles Grant, but not as fast as Bobby McCray. He stronger than Bobby McCray, but not quite as strong as Charles Grant. Grant was able to bull rush defenders, but because of his lack of speed, he couldn't get to the QB and even his tackling against the run suffered. McCray is speedy, but struggled if a tackle got his mitts on him because of his lack of strength. If Hargrove is back, I would like to see him get the chance to be the every day starting DE opposite Will Smith. He may not be an every down DE, but then again, he doesn't really need to be since the Saints have McCray, as well.

i did read everything you said......but hargrove started because of need only....i thought he played well in spot duty but he isnt a starter in this league....at least not yet and if he couldnt beat out ayodele then hes not going to beat out ellis and whoever we draft to play NT

Agreed, but there were times when he was bullied on run plays due to his lack of size. That's why he should probably only be used as a DT on passing downs.
completely agree...hes got a serious motor like i said and i think he'd want to play every down but he is just too small to play DT on a consistant basis

again i think he could play DE but im not sure he'd be a starter

he is faster than most DTs but idk if hes fast enough to play DE....neither was charles grant tho

hes a natural DE and now that our lack of depth spans out to DE i can see him playing both inside and outside

he has the build to play DE but i just think that the coaching staff put him at DT for a reason and i cant remember him playing DE at all last season.....so maybe there is a reason that we dont know about?

Canton ledgend, what is the love affair with Cody? He is iffy in my book. Hargrove will start next year weather it is in N.O. or Detroit.

im not as in love with terrence cody as everybody thinks i am

i want him in the first round and ive defended my choice and opinion a lot so people think i love him

the weight thing is an issue but he was the best player on the best defense in college football last season

he was one of the major reasons their defense was so good and he fills a huge need for us......RUN DEFENSE

we all know why our pass defense suffered....Injuries

why did our run defense suffer? IMO it was personel and cody fits that profile of run stopper....plus the way we blitz he is able to control 2 offensive linemen at a time and free up a LB to blitz

oh and who is hargrove going to start over?

I would love to see him at start at de and move to dt on 3rd and long. Maybe it is the "Sully look" that scares me with cody.
