Also, Team A can win the game with a FG on it's first possession as long as they stop Team B on their first possession.

The bottom line is if your team has a fantastic Defense, there is a chance you would defer the ball, take your chances pinning the other team down and play for the FG to win. In the previous OT, the coin toss winning team would NEVER defer.

The direct results of our beloved Saints beating the Viqueens. Guess we'll have to beat down teams prior to the expiry of regulation.

Poetic justice would be if Saints went into OT with Vikings in the postseason again. Vikes get the ball and kick a field goal, then Saints score a TD to win the game. Using the Viking rule to beat the Vikings hahahaha

TR makes a good point ... if they are going to change it, just put ten minuted on the clock and be done with it.

... and I believed you when you said you were very intelligent.

My question was: how is it fair that the team that lost the coin toss can win the game on the first possession of the game with a FG, but the team that won the coin toss cannot win the game on the first possession of the game with a FG?

Team A wins coin toss. Team A defers the kick.
Team B onside kicks and recovers the ball. That is the first possession of the game.
Team B moves the ball 30 yards and scores a FG. The field goal wins the game.
Team A won the coin toss, but never had possession of the ball, and lost on a FG.

HOWEVER, the team that won the coin toss cannot win the game with a FG on the first possession of the game.

How is that fair now?

It's a bad point actually. Team A would use a ball controlled offense to run time off the clock, kick a field goal, and leave Team B with little time to try and tie or win. There has to be a sudden death component to it, especially for the playoffs.

This is not college football. I'm sure we can all agree that no one wants to watch 6 OT pro football games.

Seems like everyone will start OT with an OSK and then play normally from there. So we swapped a coin flip for an onside?

Still don't know if it can be deferred.

Re: Owners pass Overtime rule proposal

So, if team A kicks off to team B, and team B flubs the catch and makes contact with the ball, but loses it, and team A recovers it on team Bs 10 yard line, does a field goal win the game? Damn, my head hurts!
