Owners pass Overtime rule proposal
1 Attachment(s)
Just seen on ESPN the NFL owners have passed the playoff overtime rule proposal.
The rule would call for a team to score a TD in order to win in overtime The team that wins the coin toss would still have an opportunity to win on their first possession but they would have to score a TD and not just a FG in order to win They cited specific instances of kickers being able to kick farther and it gives the coin toss winner an unfair advantage. NFL owners pass playoff OT rules modification - ESPN
The direct results of our beloved Saints beating the Viqueens. Guess we'll have to beat down teams prior to the expiry of regulation. |
Re: Owners pass Overtime rule proposal
i really believe this is an unfair advantage for the team that doesnt win the coin toss
the team that wins the toss is encouraged to go for it on 4th down due to the new rules.....but the risk of going for it on 4th down is much greater now because even tho they cant win it with a FG, the 2nd team can win it with a fg if they choose to do so just like in college, the team that wins usually wants to go 2nd because they know if they have to score a TD or score a FG......now the team that loses the coin toss has the knowledge that they only have to kick a FG to win or tie to extend the game |

Usual Sudden death rules apply if both teams are tied after their 1st possessions. So...... if the team receiving the kick-off fumbles to the kicking team. And...... then the team regaining that possession can win on a FG? |

If you don't win the toss, you cannot decide to go 1st or 2nd. So any advantage is with the team who wins the toss. Now if you said, unfair advantage to the team who receives 1st, I still would not agree with you. ;) |

but there is an advantage for the other team to know that they only have to kick a FG to win or tie the original team has to score a TD or they give up the advantage given to them by the coin toss |

Oooooo just had a thought. You can't win on a FG but you can on a safety! I am the team receiving the kick. Under CantonLegend mode, I am scared to get a FG. I go for it on 4th down, fail, BUT leave the ball in the opponents 10. ...... Under pressure......... (singing David Bowie here) |
Re: Owners pass Overtime rule proposal
Sounds like a WWE rule. Not a rule for a real sporting event. Maybe one of the QBs can get hit with a chair before the OT kickoff.
