Re: Patrick Robinson
Six people at my house watching the draft tonight and as soon as his name was mentioned, we all were silent and just looked at each other. The first person that spoke said "Who?".
I'm still trying to justify this pick, but I'm starting to wrap my brain around it more, and I completely understand why the Saints chose him after reading up on the guy. I don't think it was necessarily a bad pick, I just don't know if he was the best option. I still will not doubt Peyton, Loomis, and Co., though. If they feel that Pat Rob was the best option, then I'm on board with it. |
Re: Patrick Robinson
This pick should help us improve our passrush too. If the QB don't have anywhere to throw the ball he's a lot mor likely to get sacked.

Re: Patrick Robinson
I trust Mr. Loomis and Coach Payton. They obviously see something in Robinson that most of us don't. I still don't have a clue who he is, even after doing research on him, mainly because I don't follow College football. I do hope he can prove his worth next season. I'm anxious to see him on the field in Black and Gold.

I just think, that after the year we just had, we should put our faith into our coaching staff, and front office. They obviously know what they are doing, or we woulldn't be superbowl champs. I like the pick.

The answer : Colston , From Hofstra. We find gems where others dont look. I dont like the pick but am working hard to convince myself. We do need corners probably the biggest need area on our team. |
Re: Patrick Robinson
Looks like Sharper won't be back. With all of the needs at LB and DT, I don't see how we could pass on Sergio Kindle (couldn't believe he was still there), Brian Price, or even Terrance Cody. I'd be willing to trade next year's 1st rounder to move up for Kindle and take Cam Thomas with our 2nd rounder. We'd be set.

Re: Patrick Robinson
No way any one on this board can say this was a good pick with Kindle and Griffin still on the board!!!! This is stupid...I just woke up...and i'm still as pissed as when i went to bed!!!!!
If Kindle turns out to be what he should... We got duped!!!!! |
Re: Patrick Robinson
Can't teach speed. Kid is FAST. Our offense puts up 30+ points per game. That's not going to change. Teams have to pass the ball to try and keep up. Good luck with that now. Robinson has shut down written all over him.
By the way Mel Kiper has a second round mock out now. Here's who he has us taking in the second round: New Orleans Saints Nate Allen, S, South Florida Depth to replace likely-departed Darren Sharper. Scouts Inc has us selecting the following: 32 (64) New Orleans Saints Navorro Bowman OLB Penn State 31 (95) New Orleans Saints Greg Hardy DE Mississippi |
Re: Patrick Robinson
I absolutely love this pick. Cornerback is the hardest to fill position in the NFL. We were getting smoked when Porter and Greer were out. The cornerback is the most vital position in the Gregg Williams defensive scheme. There is a reason why five CB's went in the first round.

Re: Patrick Robinson
Mel Kipper is a... hold on here it comes.... DOUCHEBAG!!!

Re: Patrick Robinson
Don't know who Mel Kipper is but he sounds like a douchebag to me as well.

I would have thought that we would take a linebacker first.

Draft Capsule: Patrick Robinson - ESPN Video - ESPN
Classified as Boom or Bust in this video. I think Gregg Williams can "motivate" him properly. LOL. |

Re: Patrick Robinson
remember all the years we were pissed they werent drafting corners in the first round???
now we are sooooo deep at the position. is there really much of a doubt that those secondary problems we had in the past, just that...in the past? |

Re: Patrick Robinson
ok. maybe i put one too many "o's" on that "sooooo." i mean to say we're very deep in the secondary now. you also forgot gay (who im not crazy about) and vaughn. and of course, jenkins is still a corner.
i feel robinson is a guy who can start in the nickel, or fill in nicely IF (i dont wanna say when) porter or greer go down. |

Re: Patrick Robinson
I know I said WHO? WHERE? when the Saints drafted a guy named Tracy Porter out of Indiana with the 40th pick in Round 2 of the 2008 draft. How did that pick work out for us?
This kid was picked in pretty much the same range, which leads me to believe that Loomis and Payton see him as a Porter clone. Porter - 5'11" 186 lbs 23 years old. Patrick Robinson - 5'11 1/4" 190 lbs 22 years old. |

I have also said from the day we drafted Malcolm Jenkins that he is a FS not a corner because he lacks elite speed. I think we just upgraded two spots with one pick.

Re: Patrick Robinson
In this league it is seldom teams have the luxury of having a great pass rush as well as a blanket secondary. The two schools of thought are you can either get pressure with 4 and support a suspect coverage unit or you can man up in the secondary and blitz to achieve the pressure. I think that is the focus of Gregg Williams' scheme and that makes this pick make sense.
I knew this pick would be love/hate no matter who we took. All fans have different thoughts on the biggest need. I think the Saints found a pretty raw and athletic guy who they think they can turn into a solid tool for the secondary. We really were exposed last year when Porter and Greer went down. And I fully agree this is already the best and deepest secondary in the history of the team. It is much easier to find linebackers who can attack the passer and stop the run now. A great secondary can offset linebackers who are liabilities in coverage and can be allowed to focus forward only. I am more than okay with the selection. Had we taken a WR or TE I'd be much upset. |
