The two schools of thought are you can either get pressure with 4 and support a suspect coverage unit or you can man up in the secondary and blitz to achieve the pressure. I think that is the focus of Gregg Williams' scheme and that makes this pick make sense.

I knew this pick would be love/hate no matter who we took. All fans have different thoughts on the biggest need. I think the Saints found a pretty raw and athletic guy who they think they can turn into a solid tool for the secondary. We really were exposed last year when Porter and Greer went down. And I fully agree this is already the best and deepest secondary in the history of the team. It is much easier to find linebackers who can attack the passer and stop the run now. A great secondary can offset linebackers who are liabilities in coverage and can be allowed to focus forward only.

I am more than okay with the selection. Had we taken a WR or TE I'd be much upset.

Excellent post. High five to you.

If Kindle turns out to be what he should... We got duped!!!!!

Kindle might get drunk on his way to the first mini-camp. J/K

But if the guy has character issues we probably wouldn't draft him in round 7, much less take a chance on him in rounds 1 or 2. That's just my .02

This sort of reminds me of when we drafted Meachem. No one thought we needed a WR when we took him with our number one pick in 2007. Looking back at it now you'd have to say it worked out allright for us. I'd bet $5 that this one will too.

if you listen closely.....thats what the entire 3 hours worth of draft is anyway

"this guy can really help this team out. hes big physical. has the speed to make the plays. has good hips. strong at the point of attack and can shed blockers. tends to struggle at times against bigger guys."

now who did i just analyze? EVERYBODY TAKEN IN THE FIRST ROUND

Ok, we've gone CB and now OT, there had better be a trade in the works for a DT. I understand this kid at CB might have an upside in the future, but you don't use first round picks on upside. That's for the third, and down rounds. If your drafted you have an upside, LOL. We haven't addressed need yet. Most of you are talking about good coverage, so the pick makes sense. Part of me agrees with you, but what about the huge ass runs our D line gave up last year. I hope our new CB can tackle RB's after they've burst of 8-10 yards per play. If we have the lead the formula works, but if we get behind other teams are gonna kill us with the run. So, I hope something is going on at the FO to get us a trade for a quality DT.

Agreed. Good cover corners are not easy to find. You can teach a guy zone coverage, but you can't teach how to shut down a receiver in man to man. This allows us to shift Jenkins to Safety, gives us some amazing depth, and fits the defensive scheme perfectly. I don't see the issue.

We can get a run stuffer later. A good run stuffer doesn't HAVE to be a high round pick. I know Canton is a big believer in the silly concept that if you aren't a top round pick you can't be good, but you aren't going to find shutdown corners on the street like PT23 (Whom, according to Canton, can't handle the role of starting RB because he wasn't drafted.)

Um, you lost me there. I still think Meatchump was a wasted pick. Greg Olsen was still out there. Sidney Rice... Zach Miller... LaMarr Woodley... Meatchump bad.

How? It's as easy as breathing and thinking rationally. And, FYI Strato, Special Olympiads get awards too.

We needed a nickle corner anyway so I thought it was a good pick considering all of the players that were taken before that we wanted.

Re: Patrick Robinson

just watched the first round again on NFL network

immediately after the pick mayock said the word "upside"

earlier in the day i remember somebody making a comment about that word that makes a lot of sense......upside is a word that means "didnt see it in college"......if we didnt see it in college then i get worried about the projection in the NFL

he also noted that robinson had 6 picks during his sophomore year and only 1 since then.......he commented that its easy to say that teams just stopped throwing at him but it simply wasnt the case......said robinson gets beat pretty regularly

said he watched tape of him......1 game he thought the kid could go in the top 10......next 2 tapes said he shouldnt get drafted til the 4th round

i forgot to add you as a rep in the what we need to stop the run in the (grade the draft title). sorry bro we need suggestions?
