this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; lots of good talent in our picks......but didnt really answer the questions we had coming into the draft we need to do something about our poor run defense still...

Re: Grade our draft
I felt similarly to this after last years draft. Our picks last year were lackluster at best. If you recall we passed on Cushing, and Orakpo. We selected Jenkins as the "better value" even though he's a CB who many say can't cut it there and needs to be a safety. At least he contributed on special teams but he was also an injury concern last year. The best move we made was the punter, and that was something of a surprise especially considering one of the best things he added for us was on kickoffs!
We won it all, but I don't see our run D getting any better from this. Maybe the thinking is that teams can't keep up with us in scoring by running - they have to pass. That being the case, we don't need a run D. It seems to me we needed to do something about defending the run, replace Fujita, and upgrade Shanle (even though I know he's consistent if not flashy). We didn't. |

Re: Grade our draft
I like the picks more and more...Wish we could have landed Jerry Hughes..Damn Colts....lol..but a i gave it a solid B...I think there are some UFA that might even be better than our picks...I hope Galette makes the team..i can see him a situational pass rusher..The kid out of Texas Tech..could be great depth on the O-line...he played in the Big 12..and handled Suh and McCoy easily...The TE..im thinking Shockey and Thomas will help him a lot...and lastly i think the Charles Brown {like the name..think "Bells will be ringing",,lol...could be our future LT...so all i all its a solid draft..The biggest question mark to me is DT..and LB...did we really upgrade?...we shall see...

Re: Grade our draft
Uhh no I don't.
I was still dumb to give up two picks for a freaking punter in a 4 pick draft. No other team has done that ever. In fact, no team has drafted a punter that early this decade that didn't have 7 or more picks. Most had over 7 picks and only gave up one pick. We still win the Superbowl with an average punter. Good punter, but we gave up way way too much for him. |

Re: Grade our draft
Well I disagree with Kiper on that there wasn't a lot of options. There were plenty of options. We could have gone and done anything. I was actually surprised at our choices at 32. Saints couldn't go wrong and yet they could have gone so right.
I have a hard time grading the draft until these guys get out there develop and get some playing time. Even grading these guys now is a gamble to say the least I can't how anyone can really justify any grade really. But for entertainment sake I think they unraveled at the end of the draft A QB??? C- high D. What we should do is go back and grade the draft from 3 and 4 years ago. LEts see SB... A. |
