Free agent safety Darren Sharper is still not sure where he's going to end up. The New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars are both coming after him pretty strong at this point, according to the Jacksonville Times-Union. Conventional wisdom is that the Jags will need to give Sharper more dough than the Saints in order to get him to leave the team he just won the Super Bowl with.

The paper seems to think the Jaguars have a pretty good chance of signing the five-time Pro Bowler today. Sharper visited the team last week and took a physical.

Another minus for Sharper moving to Florida is that the Jags were 23rd in the league when it came to defense, which is a major reason Jacksonville wants Sharper on its side of the field. Safety is the last position the Jaguars need to address after bringing in a slew of new players this offseason, such as defensive end Aaron Kampman, linebacker Kirk Morrison, and linebacker Freddy Keiaho. The team also drafted four defensive linemen.

If it comes down to $1MM difference or more or an extra year, Sharper is as good as gone.

Garrard or Brees? Only one of those QBs can lead you back to the promise land before you retire. Come on Darren, is it really a tough decision?

He knows his career is over after the next 2 years. He has his rings, now it is all about the money. If he goes,he goes. I would love to have him back but We won without him.

Re: Jaguars battling Saints for Sharper

It's the money, he has made that really clear in every interview he's done, he wants what he thinks is fair for his services, however teams that evaluated him and saw that he needed surgery at his age and the very expandable position he has puts him in a corner with his value..
Saints wont budge very much to get him, he already has loyal fans in his short period of time in New Orleans, if he goes anywhere else he'll be easily forgotten in those places and he'll just retire with a few more dollars in his pocket and forgotten.

I dont see the jags paying that much more for his services than we would, besides his playoff bonus he'd get here will cover the difference. especially after we repeat.

He is most likey using the Jags offer to up the Saints offer. It's called leverage. If the Saints up the offer in the slightest he signs with the World Champions.
