Well, the poster's name is "Devil's Toilet Paper", loosely translated of course. Some things are just to be expected.

And just so FF get's my point:

Am I the only one who has seen Romo, and the great Favre do this too? On more than one occasion I might add....

Yes. He deserves to be in.

Nah, you're not alone, just folks don't want to talk about that, or the line (on either side of the ball) or the defense in general or the bad case of the dropsies the WR had. Heck, I remember someone on this very forum try to make a point that it was Brooks' fault that our defense couldn't defend a screen pass. Yep...people went THAT far.

They never want to give him any credit, not for the numbers, not for the come from behind wins, not for the playoff win...nothing, however they wanna blame him, and pretty much him alone, for all the problems, and it's like arguing with a stop sign.

Look, I know the first team defense practices against second team offense for game plan purposes. But screens are pretty much Defense 101. Unless your team can't or won't run them. If your defense can't practice against quality play execution (screens, posts, etc.) your defense can't and won't be effective against those types of plays.

If the Saints can't run a screen, how can they practice defending it? The defense probably looks great in practice against it. But against who is the real question. By game time, against teams that can run screens properly, the defense looks ineffective.

:stupid::lolup:

There you go...I had to go find it. There is SO MUCH of this stuff in the archives. So, here we have this fellow attempting to establish that our defense's inability to stop a screen pass was because Brooks couldn't throw a screen pass. The Brooks haters will stop at NOTHING I tell ya...NOTHING.

First off, for the record, I voted that he should be in. Now, to address this smiling thing.

I believe there is a clinical condition that explains this phenomena...I just don't know what it's called. It brings to mind an episode of the Bob Newhart Show.

In that episode, Emily was extremely P.O.'d at Bob, or disappointed about something...I can't really remember exactly...but Bob, knowing he shouldn't, could not help from smiling as she was ranting about whatever it was. He was trying to hide it, but eventually could not.

I have been in this situation, and I'm not really sure what causes it...but I think AB's problem, and possibly the others mentioned, may share this infliction. Just a thought, though.

Saw the exact same thing on a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond just last night. Debra's parents were getting a divorce and Raymond couldn’t stop smiling about it, even when he knew how serious it was to Debra. Coincidence?

All just going to prove there are many reasons a person reacts to a thing in a certain way. All the haters ASSUME Brooks just didn't care, but there's no evidence of that. It's opinion, and short of asking Brooks there's no way to know, and I'll go way out on a limb and venture to say none of the people making those assumptions have ever had a conversation with Brooks - about that or about anything else.

Statistically speaking AB was a good quarterback and I think I'm choking as I type this but in my opinion a HOF demands more than stats. What about team spirit, leadership, community involvement? AB was a dufus at best. Brilliant one week and then couldn't find his arss with both hands the next. No, No, No, No!

Welcome...you're wrong...but welcome anyway. LOL

Just kidding...kinda...

Brooks has the numbers
Brooks has the community involvement
Can't speak for or against his "team spirit", but a number of players came to his defense at times, both on the field and in the media

Ashley 08-08-2012 07:48 AM

No . He got a lot of garbage yards.

Mardigras9 08-08-2012 08:32 AM

If you erase the last 6 years of success and had this arguement prior to the Brees/Payton era, the answer would be yes. Wasn't like we had them lining up in the successful column. It is hard to give him his credit because of the smiling on the sidelines when we were cussing. But his numbers as a saint QB (without the Brees factor) are enough to get him in the Saint HOF.

CharityMike 08-08-2012 08:37 AM

Cant say yes to a QB that 1) Has multiple fumbles when no body was any where near him and 2) throws backwards passes to OL. The dude is junk who over achieved in 2000.

TheOak 08-08-2012 08:41 AM

I think the Ring of Honor/team HOF should mean more than just "club stats".

Beastmode 08-08-2012 08:57 AM

I voted yes, but not for stats. He should be in it for coming in as a backup and getting that first playoff win against at the time, the greatest show on turf. Nobody really gave him a chance in that game.

I remember the announcers almost laughing before the game. It was the biggest milestone for the Saints up until that point. Towards the end though it was just painful to watch and I agree, couple that with the smiling and it was sheer frustration because nobody else was smiling except him.

sharke 08-08-2012 09:49 AM

Did lead to first playoff victory and had some good stats. I voted yes. I do think he deserves it more than certain other players who will probably get in just because of name recognition. Sucks for him because he was followed by the Breesus era which I think skews opinions sometimes, only human. No where near elite but did a lot for the franchise. Though I will be the first to admit, I make Aaron Brooks jokes like a motherf*cker.

btw, way to wake the dead!

CharityMike 08-08-2012 10:09 AM

For you stat people:

56.5% completion percentage
123 TD
92 INT
33 Fumbles

Let me type it one more time... 33 fumbles!!!

They guy is WAY overhyped because he got us to our first playoff game.

Oh how quickly people forget abnout his fumbling, interception , smiling face so easily.

By they way; the "Bump" was great Mike.

xan 08-08-2012 06:50 PM

I'm going to give a resounding NO NO NO for all the reasons listed by the naysayers above, and also for the following point:

Aaron Brooks did not "lead" the Saints to its first playoff win. For those who do not remember, the DEFENSE won that game.

- 3 interceptions, 1 giving start in the red zone, one in Ram territory and one inside the Saints' 10,
- Force Warner to fumble at Ram 16.
- The muffed punt which, by the way, would not have been necessary if Brooks could have managed ONE first down on the last 3 possessions.

He "torched" THE worst defense in the league, missing several starters on defense. My dead, drunk, paraplegic grandmother could hit those open receivers.

Other Brooks' highlights:

- 2nd quarter Red Zone interception at the Ram 15.
- Ran backwards on a sack next series at the Ram 41 to the 50, negating FG opportunity.
- Fumbled "scrambling" inside the Saints' 10 yardline (Yay Chad Morton!) with 6 minutes to go up 31-13.

Being there does not get you into the Hall. Nor does winning DESPITE you.

Rise up against those who wish to practice revisionist history.

NO

onebyone 08-08-2012 06:59 PM

If Aaron Brooks is in your hall of fame, then you should likely just close it down because it's a joke and on you.
