The expansion Saints sent their No. 1 pick to the Baltimore Colts for QB Gary Cuozzo, a quiet, 26-year-old dental student who had spent his previous four years as Johnny Unitas's backup. Cuozzo started the first 13 games, throwing for 1,562 yards and seven touchdowns with 12 interceptions, before losing his job to Billy Kilmer. The party ended after the season when Cuozzo was traded to the Minnesota Vikings.

In exchange for Cuozzo the Colts got center Bill Curry and the first pick of the draft.

QUESTION: Who did Baltimore pick with the 1st pick of the 1967 draft?

Hint: He went on to a All Pro career and acting career and helped Baltimore reach two Super Bowls.

US OLD GUYS REMEMBER WHO IT IS.

My first guess on this was Bert Jones, but I thought it seemed the draft was a little before his time, and I didn't remember him doing any acting except for an old Miller Lite commercial. I had to google it to find out that it was Moses Hightower...aka Bubba Smith.

He wasn't a bad player .... good name in Bubba, too!

... which brings to mind ... a list of players we could have gotten with the very next pick or two that went on to become all pros....

Hey Smash, the worst case of this that I can remember is when Bum Phillips took George Rogers and passed on Lawrence Taylor who the Giants took with the very next pick. His reason: if we have Taylor on one side of the field, the offence would just run to the other side. Buddy D's answer to that was "Well, coach, then you would only have to worry about one side of the field instead of both".

We did make up for it somewhat by taking Rickey Jackson in the 2nd round. I can only imagine what our defense would have been like with both Taylor and Jackson playing together.

That would've been unreal .... both turned out to be quality citizens ... BTW ....
