Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I can totally understand how Archie & Oliva have mixed emotions about our SB victory. Blood is thicker than just about anything people. As much as Archie loves N.O., I can guarantee you he loves his sons more. All of them have been stand up people. Have you ever seen a Manning act a fool like TO? Did they ever go into a bar packing, and shoot themselves? Did they expose themselves to some chick at party while drunk? I mean geez c'mon people, get a lil perspective.

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I agree pumpkindriver. Last year at this time everybody on this thread loved Archie Manning. He was Mr. New Orleans. I think you need to back up and think about what Archie has meant to the New Orleans area for all these years. All of a sudden, everybody is turning on him just because he is having a hard time dealing with the mixed emotions he feels for New Orleans' Superbowl win, and his son's loss. It must be difficult to have to deal with. However, my earlier statement still stands. He needs to get off his ass, get out and meet the people, join in on the celebration. The Colts lost. There is nothing he can ever do to change that. Suck it up, be a good sport, and congratulate the team and the city on the accomplishment, and join in on the fun.

I never really was a fan of Archie's to begin with, because I'm somewhat a newer fan since 86, which was after Archie's time. I know a lot of people here still hold him in high regards because of what he has done in the past, but I'm not one of them.

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
Did I miss something in this article? I didn't read anything in the article that gave me any reason to believe Archie is being a D-Bag. He said that he and his wife are kind of on the sidelines of all the celebration and don't really get to get involved much. ( My assumption here is out of respect for his son) Well, I don't blame him. He starts celebrating his teams win, then his son feels like he's celebrating his loss.
Then he says he "wishes the Colts didn't make it to the Super Bowl". He never said he wished the Saints didn't make it to the big game. Can't blame him here, he would be able to celebrate without any guilt if the Saints had beaten another team in the SB. Look, I'm not "Manning" guy, but I respect Archie and what he has done for the Gulf South. I didn't like the little game they pulled on draft day back when Eli was taken by the Chargers. I don't really care for Eli or Peyton. I think they are good QB's, but they act very spoiled and selfish at times. I've felt like that long before the whole post Super Bowl "handshake" or lack thereof. I wouldn't have a problem if there were people still talking about Peyton and how he reacted, but Archie hasn't done anything wrong guys. Hell, he's probably going to catch some flack just for making the comment that he wishes the Colts never made it to the SB. The guy has to concious of his family and their feelings. I don't know how that game was for him....talk about bittersweet. You know he was cheering for his son, but he WANTED the Saints to win. Anyway, unless there is a bunch more information that I'm not aware of, I don't have a problem with Archie. But I still think his boys are spoiled. |

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
The Manning acorns fall close to the family tree.
Whiners. Period. I've been saying it for years and that was never a popular opinion but I've never let that stop be from railing along the truth. Whiners. Period. All of them. I've met most and I stand by my statement. Gripe, complain, biotch, moan, whine. Just watch them for Christs sake. They are always pointing the finger. You never see a "my bad" from a Manning. Welcome to Manning reality. Whiners. Period. Clear enough? Again, I've been saying this for quite a long time. Nothing in that article changes my take on the matter. |

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I agree jnormand and that was kind of my original point. Like OldMaid said, have you read the comments at the end of the article? Archie is getting raked over the coals, and for what, supporting his son. Whether we like him or not, Peyton is still Archie's son and Archie is going to support him. Everybody talks about the hospitality that New Orleans has to offer. This hospitality and support has been offered to Archie for years. He makes one comment about being torn between two loyalties, his passion and his son, and he gets ripped to shreds. Do you think Drew Brees is treating his friend, Archie, this way? All the people trashing Archie should take a look at how this is seen and taken, not only by Archie and his family, but the whole nation.
Now Archie, again, the game is over. The Colts lost. We are sorry you had to go through this. We are NOT sorry that the Saints won the Superbowl. Archie, come on out and join us in our celebration. We want you to be a part of it. We welcome you with open arms. QBrees says he has the first round, I've got the second. |
