Saints Defense Top 10?
Face it... Our defense we beat the Vikings. The offense did just enough but it was the guys on the other side that controlled the game.
It looks like our running game is also much improved. We finally have some superior player on defense... Darren Sharper Malcomn Jenkins Jabari Greer Tracy Porter Roman Harper Jonathan Vilma Will Smith Sedrick Ellis Their are eight players with potential ProBowl talent. It seems we're finally puting together a very good defense. These guys face the #1 offense in the league everyday at practice. Consider, before the Vikings game... what kind of odds would you have taken if you could take the Saints and they couldn't score more than 14. |

Tackling still leaves something to be desired. Too many misses, wiffs, and BIG play losses of concentration. We also need to get our DB's up to Sharper/Porter type hands. We have let multiple two-hand touches get away both in pre-season and in Thursdays game. But this was game one. I'll chalk it up to early season jitters. If we keep our GA/TA ratio in our favor, we'll be just fine. Top 10 would require some improvement.

Yeah, I think it is a little early to declare ourselves to have a top 10 D. Everyone is still shaking the cobwebs loose. Let's see what the numbers look like in the 3rd or 4th week.

I think we finish inbetween the 15-20 area. As much as we score, we give our opponents ample opportunites to put up points... especially once we're up by so much, the defense usually gets a bit vanilla(prevent defense which I absolutely find stupid in every level of football).

I don't think the Saints will ever play vanilla or take the pedal off. It's not their style. |

It only has to be good enough. But, with a offense that scores alot of points and goes 3 and out quite often, stats wise I don't think it's possible. If the Saints were to have a top 10 defense stats wise, I think another Super Bowl is a certainty.

A little too early for me to say. I'm happy the defense held, but I also saw Adrian Peterson run through the defense like a hot knife in warm butter. The Vikes started passing toward the end of the game and couldn't get it done (props to the LB, DB's and S). It makes me nervous to think what could have happened if they kept using AP and started running more play action.
I think the defense will be better than last years, but stopping the run is still yet to be determined. The good news is that we don't face AP every week. |
