True, Brees was not looking all that sharp (by his own very high standards). Also, PT was hurt and Ivory had already fumbled.

During the FOX post-game show (which I got to see instead of Atlanta's game-winning drive, because the network wasn't allowed to show any more of the game on the west coast after 4:15 eastern time--dammit!), Tony Dungy said Payton made the right call because at that point you just want to end the game.

One point Dungy made is that every extra play is another chance to get someone else injured. Imagine what we would all be saying if a key player had been injured trying to score a TD in OT. "Why the *&^% didn't Payton call out the field goal team on 1st down and end the game!!"
